I have to say, we all know how capable the Camaro is, and that it beats the Mustang & Challenger around a track (usually), though I'd love to see Chevy get in a dick measuring contest with Ford & Dodge and come out with a Camaro with HP numbers bigger than the outgoing GT500 (662hp) & this new Dodge Hellcat Challenger (707hp). I don't care if it's functional, or the best around a track, I just want a Camaro with a whole lot of shit-your-pants under the hood.

Ford and Chevy are going to top the hellcat in a year or two. Chevy will bring a zl1 on roids and ford can go with a supersnake.

To go off topic just a bit, the new Corvette Z06 is an absolute powerhouse and marvel of track engineering. That and Chevy is actually actively utilizing carbon fiber like the exotic companies (maybe not to the same extreme, but hey) and considering the new 'Vette is about 50hp under the Lambo Aventador for 1/4 the price, these exotic companies better step up their game. I think Corvette is gonna embarrass a lot of foreign supercars pretty soon.

Interesting twist here (from the article):

"The Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs, red and black. You’ll want the red one, as it is the only one that unlocks the full 707 hp and torque; the black key fob limits the engine’s output to “just” 500 hp."

I don't think that's going to happen with GM. I foresee the ZL1 with a LT4 at about 650HP in 2017 but that's about it. I can picture it with that kind of power and around a 3800lb curb weight. 650HP and a 3800lb weight could very well get it done against a Hellcat. In any case I don't think we will see any Camaro that will compete with it in a straight line until at least the 2017 model year so kudos tho Dodge. I would also be very surprised if the new GT500/GT350 has anywhere near that power as well. I think they already said that the 5.8 won't fit into the new car. The Hellcat SRT8 could very well be 1/4mile king for a very long time in the muscle car segment. Of course if it cost as much as a ZO6 I'm not so sure how great that kind of title would be.

A FI Challenger was bound to happen soon or later.

If the price of Dodges newest creation is around 75K+, that may drawn a black eye for SRT if all they did was add power. I would love to see the final product specs and hope they did more than add more power and torque.

It seems like a new golden age for high performance cars, especially in the "affordable" category. GM, Dodge and Ford are all coming out swinging with great products.

Again, not trying to be a chevy fanboy but I could spend a lot less for a Shelby or Camaro and then take the savings and throw a ton of mods.

Still props go to Dodge for upping the ante.
