Rally Stripes

Newbie here. I just bought a 2014 yellow convertible with Rally stripes. I'll post pics and fix my avatar when I get a chance, I'm just so addicted to all the knowledge being thrown around this forum.. Any particular rules for washing when it comes to Rally stripes(factory installed). I also would like to know the best way to wash the convertible top.(It's black, not the tan). Thanks and I've learned so much lurking since I got the car a few weeks ago.

Thank you so much for the links. This will help a great deal as(you can probably tell), this is my first TOY car after 30 years so I probably last pulled out a hose and cleaned a car myself was 1990. It was my 1980 VW Rabbit, hahahaha The I grew up and got a job with a company car every 4 years and just went to the car wash with them. I missed washing my own car for years and I also believe many people feel the same about their TOY car. It's a bond on a Saturday afternoon. Although after seeing these videos, I may be washing it into Sunday to.Hehe. Thanks again.

I remember using the Dupont Compound / Finishing Polish in a can, the Megs #7 Mirror Glaze, Megs Yellow wax, and chamois/cotton towels back in the day.

Paint has changed a lot since then, as have washing techniques, polishing methods, and products used to protect paint.

Here are a few video's to get you on track.

Washing

Drying

Paint Correction

Protection Products

Today they have wax, sealants, ceramic coatings, and paint protection film.

Pick your poison based upon what your car's paint is exposed to.

Wax---- good for garage queens/show cars that aren't driven much. You can still use them on daily drivers, but they wont last very long. Many companies now sell "wax" that is a blend of wax and polymers to increase durability.

Sealants-----provide 4-6 months protection on daily drivers, made from polymers, or most recently, SI02. Much more resistant to acidic things (bird bombs/bug splatter), versus basic wax.

Ceramic coatings------provide around 2 years of protection to the paint, generally end up around 75-100X thicker than a layer of wax or sealant. They also make the car easier to wash. You must have a garage where it can cure for at least 24 hours before being exposed to the elements.

Paint protection film-----durability from 5-10 years, protects paint from scratches and rock chips, can be done over high impact areas (Front/mirrors/rockers) or the whole car if you want.

If it does for stripes what it does for black trim, it's got to be fantastic!
