so i think i broke a cv joint
last night i was playing with my car just as i usually do. and i did about a 4000rpm clutch dump going about 3 mph to spin the tires and i hear a loud snap and i slam onto the clutch and off the gas and exact word out of my mouth, "guys i think i just f*$ked something up". so i go to ease off the clutch and hear a teriible grinding noise and the car is like jumping!! So i stop and reach my hand back there and feel the right shaft. The cv boot strap was on the axle and the cv boot was not on right and i had grease all over my hand. so i got a tow to my dealership which was 5 minutes away good thing. so i have to go there today and get it sorted out. Im more suprised then mad at myself bc arent these rearends suposed to handle like 700 rwhp? And i should be right at 400rwhp. But i think the cv joints may have been defective bc if im sitting in the driveway and put it in reverse and ease out i hear a "click" on each side in the rear. then put it in first and it does the same thing and if i were to go back and forth all day like that it would keep doing it. My buddy said something may have been stretched and finally gave yesterday. Good thing for warranties. Oh and dont flame about the burnout or clutch dump, im sure you all do it

With all the LS3's breaking I am getting more and more glad I got a L99. If you saw how little tread I have left on my rears you would know I have been having fun.
Sorry about your car. |

Funny you should mention, I did the same thing to my car last night.
I was powering hard up an on ramp, was at 6000 rpm when I shifted to 2nd gear. Bang! from the rear end and grinding. Coasted to the side, looked inside the right rim and there was grease all over the place, from the outboard CV joint. Don't know if I messed up the rear end or not. I will find out more after the dealership digs into it. It has me wondering about how the CV joints are going to handle all the superchargers being put on our cars.

You have the same rear axles on your L99.

GOOD NEWS GUYS my broken axle WILL NOT be covered under warranty bc i have 3/32" less tread on my rear tires than my front and i have an after market exhaust. So its gonn be $520 if they fix it or $310 if i fix it. Its safe to say i will never buy a new GM vehicle again

i would but they have my vin and everything so they will prolly just deny me there too and i would have to pay for towing again. They but the lift arms right on my rocker panels and bent them in so they WILL fix those or i WILL sue

I dont understand. What does the tire tread and after-market exhaust have anything to do with the failed CV joint or axle?
Ok, what about the other guy with the same problem, I wonder if his dealer refuses to cover it under warranty.... |

I think you need to contact Fbodfather or higher ups at GM about that. If GM is going to do that there will be alot of people that never buy another GM product.
I mean the put launch control on the car for you to do launches. They say this is a sports/muscle car for the 21st century. If they want to keep selling them they better not be voiding warrantys on silly stuff. Did the car have a tune? Did the transmission have torque management adjusted or turned off. I would think as long as no to either of those the car should be covered and the dealer is just bullshitting you to get higher fees out of you for warranty work. |

Because the OP's dealer denied it, his information is likely flagged in the system and other dealers will not be able to warranty it, even if they wanted to do so. Sucks, but some dealers are much more picky than others. |

I just got off the phone with my dealer, Davidson-Gebhardt
Chevrolet in Loveland, CO and they will be covering it under warranty. Now it is just finding out about parts availability. My rear tires are worn more than my fronts, too. But what's that got to do with anything? Any vehicle with any kind of performance will wear the drive tires faster than the non-drive tires, that can't be helped. Especially when they are staggered and can't be rotated.
