Cool trick you can do with your DIC !

Just found a cool trick I can do with the Driver Information Center of the Camaro. (What did you think this thread was going to be about anyway?)

Press the menu button and cycle through until you find the miles / litres per gallon display.

Press and hold the reset button while you accelerate and shift through gears (manual).

The liters / miles per gallon indicator will change in real time, showing you just how much gas you are using up as you press the accelerator and change gears.

I am using this to learn how to to save gas when taking off from a stationary position, and how much gas I save by coasting where possible. Cool!

I think you do it AFTER you shift and your at an RPM you would normally drive at.

pretty cool.

It will give you real time for just a few minutes and then you start averaging out again. You would have to keep resetting it to see thru each gear and rpm.

Booo. so it does not have the "instant" and "average" settings like the C6? Damn! I love putting it on instant and coasting down a hill and it saying 99 MPG then flooring it up the hill and it drops to 1 MPG. Fun times! Our truck (2006 Ram Diesel) does not have the instant option either come to think of it...

This kind of deteats the purpose... I would think you'd want the avarage MPG of the car over time, not each tank. Use the trip meter and your cell phone calculator to figure each tank independantly. Then you will have both... average over the life of the car and each tank you can see how "spirited" your driving was that tank.

I do this with our commuter car. it is amazing how things effect it even if you drive normal all the time. Rain, wind, temp... we vary for 32mpg on bad tanks all the way to 38 on good tanks. We use a tank every 2 days... 130 +/- mile round trip commute to workn plus errands in a 1998 civic. 185K and keeps on ticking. Not one straight body panel but oh well. Wait, the driver door may be... oh wait never mind, the deer incident...
