Boss 302 Laguna Seca not even street legal???
The 2012 Mustang Boss® 302 with Laguna Seca Package* adds elements like race-compound tires, an aggressive front air splitter and rear pedestal spoiler, standard Torsen differential and Recaro® seats, additional track gauges, and even deletes the rear seat and adds a rear cross-brace to save weight and add torsional rigidity.
*Front air splitter included in Laguna Seca Package is intended for race track use only and is not legal for on-street driving. May degrade crash performance and void vehicle warranty. Must be installed by customer. Coming spring 2011. Wow. Non street legal components. Whats next? Open header exhaust and a drag chute? |

What is the MSRP on these things anyway? There is a dealer here who imported one from the US and has it listed for $79,900CAD. That sounds crazy. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's an aggresive front splitter that attaches to the existing splitter to aid in downforce on the track. It's a simple bolt on/off.

Looks like you are quoting from here...

You sound surprised that Ford went the extra mile and included a component that won't pass government standards (it wouldn't on the ZL1 either). Wouldn't you like it if GM went the "extra mile" and threw in some components that you could use for racing but that our nanny state, liability conscious government (yours is usually even stricter than ours!) won't allow on public roads? The standard Boss 302 splitter is already something to be very mindful of when parking your car, for example. The LS splitter is way beyond that. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=12492 Instructions here. Still surprised? Last edited by Tob; 11-20-2011 at 10:58 AM. Reason: Engrish |

So does it come with the car? And what of the "may void vehicle warranty"? A simple bolt on sold by Ford to the consumer if implemented may void your vehicle warranty?

Would they foot the bill if you hit a curb with it off? Warranty isn't going to touch that either way.

Your original question was asking why a simple "bolt-on" may void the warranty and I answered it.
If you hit a curb (or otherwise) with it off, you are on your own - just as with any other car. The difference with the LS piece, is that Ford is stating that any portion of the applicable warranty may be voided because of explicitly stating so. It isn't that complicated. It is not a street legal piece. Use it and you are on your own. Not far from using an aftermarket tune, etc. The difference here is that Ford is giving it to you for track use only - if you so choose. |

I understand. It's purpose is strictly a "cover your ass" statement from Ford. Put the splitter on and you agree that Ford is not responsible for anything that happens as a result of it. Simple enough.

CYA statements, unfortunately, have become the norm. Really sad and not likely to get any better.

Do you know if "track days" effect warranty at all? I know here in Canada, insurance doesn't cover any damage that occurs to your vehicle as a result of "off-road" use. I'm sure they would classify track usage as off-road.

According to truecar.com the Laguna Seca version is selling for about $46,000
I'm kind of interested in the non Laguna Seca version and looked at one at a dealer nearby. They are asking $43,500 for it.
