My suggestion is E63 AMG, 2018 and up M5, and if you aren't after "fastest car for the money" definitely look into the LC 500. Can be had for 70k near new, phenomenal interior quality, nice v8, definitely unique styling. It's a must see car in person

Yes, I went and looked back at his posts. He modded his Grand Sport to 530 whp for sure.

Here is his lastest last fall in 2018

And... I'm back!
2015 ZL1 -> 2017 Grand Sport -> 2017 Z06 -> 2018 ZL1

It's good to be back in a ZL1.

Grand Sport engine blew up.
Z06 never ran properly, from day 1, the car would stall when I stomped on it.

My new ZL1 is perfect

Excuse me?
You're making things up now.
Modded my Z07 to 530whp? They make more than this stock.
The only car I modded was my 2015 ZL1, which yes, I added headers intake and tune. I only did it because the car would not run on 91 octane (CA91) without a tune. After the tune it was great.

I did not mod my 2017 Grand Sport. The engine failed after 2k miles and it was replaced by the dealership. It then happened again and they suspected it was something with the fuel system which was not replaced, but I said F-It.

I then bought my Z06, it had the same problem I'm having now so I never touched the engine because I wanted to keep my warranty (esp after my Grand Sport). Same with my ZL1 1LE.

I was honest and said, I had a TMTB on my ZL1 1LE and I pull the NPP fuse. Thats it.

I am just looking for car suggestions, not conspiracy theories.
However, I suspect there may be a recall that applied to both my 2017 Z06 and 2018 ZL1. I think the dealer didn't know about it at the time of my Z06 so I got blown off. I'm going to try one last time with this recall but I don't have high hopes.

By lightly modded, do you mean I had a TMTB for 2 weeks which I then removed and pulled the battery cable, everything went back to normal for 2 weeks and then the issues started happening again?

I would seek out another dealer, your in Cali so swinging the dead cat in a different direction should yield you another option for service. Leave GM if you like, but I would make them fix the ZLE if for nothing but spite.

My latest theory is that there was a recall about the O2 sensor wiring that may apply to both my 2017 Z06 and 2018 ZL1. The recall came out after I sold my Z06, so that may be why they blew me off.

I'm going to try again with the ZL1.

Recall #17457

They are Zl1/Hellcat price territory though. Probably hold the resale better though.
I'd prefer a coupe, but I do like the RS3, though its a bit on the ordinary side IMO.

Yeah, but I don't think I'm going to get one for a price I'd be willing to pay for a GT500. If I could get one for 80k I'd do it, but I don't think that's going to happen.

I mistyped and then did an edit but it must not have taken. It was your GS that you modded to 530whp.

Your post was to say that you had such bad luck, it seems you modded your cars and blew up your motors. It was not GM's fault.

This is coming from someone who likes and owned a number of Japanese performance cars (Supra, S2K, (2) RX7s, the 3rd Gen was a beast on track, "only" ~450HP but 2900 lbs ...)

Since I'm shopping I have friends recommending cars (I'm specifically looking at another convertible), and a Merc of various flavors has come up, but I suspect I'm like the OP, in that I'm not a "Mercedes owner" - I think that's one of those brands where you are or aren't, the objective metrics don't matter much, there's sort of a mental brand alignment.
I do prefer manual, but I am at that point where I'm ready to switch to auto if its good.

You're right, I'm not really a Mercedes kind of guy. The only one I like is the AMG GT-R but its closer to 200k.
The old AMG C63 Black Edition back in 2012 was pretty nice.

Viper is very appealing but if I'm honest with myself it's going to be a difficult daily driver.

I daily drive the ZL1 1LE now and it's approaching the max discomfort I'm willing to live with daily -- livable but extreme.

The ZL1 1LE or another Z06 is really my perfect fit.
I'd say the next closest at opposite ends of my spectrum are GT350R or HC Redeye.

I appreciate all the input and conspiracy theories.
I am going to try this recall #17457 and if that fixes it then I owe everyone an apology and will keep the car. If it doesn't then I will probably try to tune this ZL1 1LE and risk my warranty.

I hate the problems I've been having but as most have said, there really isn't anything better in the domain I'm looking for.

GT350R: not enough torque, but i've never driven one so I can't say for sure. Otherwise I think it's a pretty good fit. If the lack of torque wasn't awful and I could get one for MSRP this would be it.

HC Redeye: Too heavy and not a great handling car, but I do like the purist muscle car *thing*. I could do that for awhile.

you just need to make the dealer keep the car until its right. If they can't fix it, switch dealers. It's a new car, they should be able to make it right.

Having said that, have you looked in a Lexus RC F, or the new RC F Track model? Great V8, nice car, and superb reliability.
This is my suggestion also. Or take a look at the Lexus LC500. Bad ass looks in person, and a 471 HP V8, 10 speed auto. Under $100k.

Don't get the GT350, I had one. It is ok, with no torque until 4k rpm. It slugs on takeoff. It is only fun above 4k rpm, and it will burn 1qt of oil every 500 miles.

The LC 500 is a piglet, 4200 to 4400+ lbs. The RC F is the way to go, , 3,958lbs.
