Best of luck on your next purchase! I'd say go with the new GT500 and do NOT modify it or ACR Viper is pretty hard to beat. I gave up 100 HP to lose 1100 lbs, doubt it will be as reliable as a stock car but LS3 is proven and it's definitley a riot! Personally I'm not a fan of direct injection and all the complications it can add. Although I had no major issues with my ZL1 after 12K miles, 10 track days and a few autoX's, you must have been unlucky.

Having said that, have you looked in a Lexus RC F, or the new RC F Track model? Great V8, nice car, and superb reliability.

Interesting, the GT350s have possible oil pump issues too. The Hellcats have possible s/c bearing issues. GT-R sounds like poop. 2013+ Vipers have possible engine bearing issues. I hope you enjoy your GT-R! |

My advice to ZL1 owners, unless you have money to burn don't modify/tune the engine in the ZL1, at least until they figure out what's going on with the oil pump issue.
The exception would be a Callaway ZL1 ($$$) which has a warranty that covers everything GM covers, or maybe another shop that provides a warranty that extends to the oil pump and other critical engine parts. Most only cover the parts they modified/added. |

My father used to tell me I had "tinkeritis" Couldn't leave things alone.
He was so true. So many on this forum screwing with cars and effin them up! (then blaming GM for the problems)

AS your done with your Zl1 1LE, and its a dog i will offer you $30K now for it, front end damaged and all. J/K
Go to a dealer that is not in Cal and get it fixed, if its going in to limp mode, its for a reason, it does that to protect itself, i run around some of the hottest parts of the country for the past 2 years and never ones went in to limp mode, with any of my cars be it on the track or the street. |

First off, sorry. Sucks that you've had such bad luck. In fact, it's so rare and inconceivable that I'm strongly suspecting something in your area to be the cause such as fuel or your dealer(s).
The only thing I'd give up my Chevy's for would be Porsche/McLaren/Ferrari etc. You'll get less for what you pay for with AMG Mercedes, BMW, and Audi but they are making great performance cars right now too. They're all going to be $100,000+ when new. Deals can be had on used ones. The M cars are kind of dead in the water from what I know, not really the best at anything, some have lots of issues, some flat out suck. Certainly worth a look if that interests you though. Try to swing a 991 Porsche GT3. Or an E63S AMG. I would NOT go with performance cars from Chrysler or Ford...Both of them would be a downgrade from Chevrolet's performance cars in my opinion. |
