Damn. I've only blown up one motor in my life.

But you and me seem to be champs at breaking shit lately.

Maybe just buy another beater all together?

This is actually a friend of a friend, so I will be going to see this golf cart in a few weeks. Everyone in my town has stock golf cart, I think its time to blow some minds with something like this.

Hey, if you are gonna do it, gotta do it right.

Options 1 and 2 are both good. Since you just need a shortblock, you could probably use the rest of your parts on that 383. Then again, if you have the LS3 just sitting around, it would depend on the cost of the harness, etc.
Harness cost with new ECM.. 700 bucks... not that I looked or anything
Depends on how salvagable the 383 is. I may just rebuild it to be a beast of an old school motor

Kyle, if you put a motorcycle engine in a golf cart, YOU had better install a full cage... for all the people out here that love you... a cage, a racing seat, and a six point harness...

First, sorry to hear about your truck....

next?.... A NEW BUILD! SWEET!

Cost vs cost...could you rebuild the 383 and keep it somewhat stock so you could still sell off the LS3? Or, are you planning on keeping that truck for a while? Probably rebuild to keep the LS3

will not sell the LS3... I will find something to put it in. Golf Cart...hmmm, ha.. jk

The 383 is not anywhere near stock anyway, so if it gets rebuilt, it will be rebuilt better and badder.

Yes.. I have had the truck since I was 15... its not going anywhere. LS3 in here could be a good option though.

Sounds like you got a good LS3 to put in, then. Probably better gas mileage than a BIG 383 as well. Then you can rebuild the 383 for "later" use....

Exclamation help... speedo issue.

Hey Everyone... got an issue.

we finally got the 3rd trans installed... 10 weeks later. haha. we had an issue with some malfunctioning shifter cables too.. but I think we are passed that.

now, for some reason the speedo (both analog and digital) are reading the RPM from the tach. all three go off of engine speed and jump as i shift. This new trans should bolt right in, and is full manual anyway. Nothing else should have been touched. for the 6 miles that were put on the 2nd transmission the speedo worked correctly.

Also, the battery keeps dying, trying to track that short down still. I think it is the melted AFR controller, but we have it cleaned up and insulated now.

Have you came across this speedo issue before? Could it be fixed with a computer flash maybe?

any leads would be appreciated.

Kyle, its very likely that you're chasing an electrical open... because that would not only explain the dying battery, but also the jumping tach and speedo.

I dont think a computer reflash will cure this one... its possible, but I really doubt it.

The speedo is reading engine rpm? Got some crossed/shorted wires someplace if that's the case.

I'm no good with the new ecm/bcm cars, does the speedo & tach signal feed thru the bcm?

whats an electrical open... and where can i find him. haha

lol, does that mean a short somewhere.. there were lots of fried wires under the car.. like the AFR controller that is still broke. but I think we isolated all of these and repaired them.

whats the best way to go about tracking it down?

amen rev

I am not sure, the 2nd tranny worked fine, the 3rd one has the issue, but i think that 4L80E is all manual, so not sure if any of it is tied into a computer?
