Best Drivable Cam?

Who makes the best daily driving cam for the Z/28? I'm looking at ordering a cam but don't know where to start. I only track twice a year so I'm not looking for a racing cam, but I love the sound of a loping cam!!!

I no longer daily my Z/28, but I still want to keep the cam small enough that it isn't a pain in light traffic.

Any advice?

get with dynoSteve at RDP ASAP! They currently have a Z build in progress and along with the cam he will get you setup with a SCT/tune for life deal that can't be beat AND is required whenever you mod the car...especially with a cam!

Additional supporting components really should go along with a cam like a CAI, headers with or without cats and what ever the tuner recommends to get the best performance.

good luck OP!

Yeah I have heard about them, but 13K is a little over my budget.

Understandable, but if you're going to throw in a big cam, most people will strongly recommend that you don't cheap out on upgrades to the valvetrain and bronze valve guides. It's a relatively small price to pay for insurance. Do you have a budget in mind?

The Stage 4 package includes everything you'd want from the Stage 5 package, minus the intake and throttle body and costs $10,500. You could also look at doing the Stage 3 + bronze valve guides to save a little more money if you aren't interested in getting the heads fully redone. I've priced out similar setups that I've pieced together from multiple sources (to try and save money) and found the prices to be pretty comparable to what Vengeance is quoting. Unless you plan on doing all the work yourself, Vengeance may actually be a cost effective option.

They also do A+ work and are a great bunch to work with for your build.

You could give Cammotion a call
Tell them what you got and they'll do a custom grind
I'm going with them in my build

Staring to realize more people have modded their Z/28's than I thought.

I personally know of 7 LS7 Corvettes they have done over the past few years and they all rock and owners are extremely pleased. And now with some of their own grinds, wow! One of my best friends had his done there several years ago and does 4 to 5 events per year and he's still smiling along with driving for a cruise when needed.

I'm in Massachusetts. Slowhawk Performance put a Comp Cam stage 2 custom grind in my Z/28. Couldn't be happier with the results.

Specs:

Int: 286
Ext: 299
Dur @ .050: 231 246
lobe sep: 115.0
valve lift: .640 .631

Cam installed with BT spring set, 7.75 pushrods, Ktech timing chain, Ls7 8 rib pulley, NGK plugs, 10 qts. Mobil 1 0W/40, tune. Done in December 2016.

Picked up 44 HP at rear wheels.

Slowhawk also did the ARH long tube headers, NGK plugs, tune. Picked up 30 HP (and great sound).

So, Cam and headers together, my Z picked up 75 HP at wheels, 42 ft. lbs of torque, and very, very badass sound.

I recommend it!
