pushrod lifter help
so im trying to measure my pushrod lengths and im stuck. i got a comp cams checker to measure. so the engine is on a stand so i dont know if i can get an accurate measurement because the lifters arent completely pumped up. so is “0” lash, the rocker perfectly centered over the valve not able too move at all or able to slide a touch side to side on the bearing. the lifters compress like 1/16” if you put a tiny pressure on them. is it normal for the lifters to compress a tiny bit?

Just feel up and down on the rocker tip over the valve. Start with the checker on the short side so you feel that tap/lash with the rocker bolt snug. And sneak up on zero lash when you no longer feel it tapping. Then added your desired preload length to what your check ends up at.
The lifter internal spring should be holding the plunger at the top against the clip. You should have to push down firmly to compress that spring. Make sure tightening the rocker is not opening the valve or compressing the lifter plunger spring while your checker is in there. Just use the checker to sneak up on zero lash- no tapping at the rocker tip. Brian Tooley and Katech have some good videos on the tube. |
