A bit of oil in one spark plug well
2LT/RS has 75K on it and I was changing the plugs when I came across a bit of oil on the spark plug and in well (about a teaspoon). Car does not consume oil. I am the original owner, change the oil 3-5K. Runs fine. No codes or check engine light. Valve cover gasket? Any other thoughts?
Thanks, |

I had similar oil in my spark plug well when I changed my plugs last spring. I was told it is the gasket inside the valve cover around the spark plug opening that is allowing oil to seep thru. I have not done anything at this time to fix the issue. Other than to keep an eye on my oil level.

Thanks Man. I did not think it was a valve cover gasket since there would be oil in more spots than just the spark plug well. (or smell etc.) Oil has been fine and I check regularly usually loses about 1/2 quart between changes between 3-5K. What milage do you have on your car? Appreciate it. B2GM |

I have been losing approx. 1/2 qt. per oil change starting at the 65K mile time frame. It has now increased to about 1/2 qt. per every 1500 - 2000 miles. I am now at 99K miles.
I change my oil every 4K miles. There is a gasket that seals around each spark plug hole. I noticed oil in the back two on the passenger side only.

You are welcome. Get the tools, take your time starting on a Friday afternoon to dissemble. Then on Saturday paint the valve covers while they are off. Then on Sunday do the reassemble. Drive it again on Monday. That is my plan one of these days. Just need to make it happen now. .......hmmmm.....now that I think about it........the sooner the better, as I have been wanting to paint those valve covers.

It is a paper manual. 3 Volume set. Should be able to find a set on the internet / Ebay / etc.
