I've always hated the Rangers....I've been a Devils fan since 1983 and my hatred of the Rangers started about a year after that, long before the Rangers squeaked by the Devils in double overtime in game 7 on a garbage goal by Stephane Matteau that was actually knocked in the goal by Slava Fetisov.

But like I said, it was a great playoff series and while it sucked to lose it, especially to you guys, winning the Cup the next year and then two more times after quickly numbed the pain of that experience. I'm glad you're able to milk 1994 for all it's worth considering it's all you guys have, lol

As for the attendance, I'm sure it has a lot more to do with the fact the Rangers have been in the NHL for almost 60 more years than the Devils, during which time they've only managed to win ONE more Stanley Cup than the Devils have.

I was born in New Jersey but I grew up in Canada...so no offence but I don't need any instructions in hockey from my American brethren. I'll call you guys when I need to know something about baseball or tractor pulls.

Were you also a kansas city scouts fan? and a Colorado Rockies Fan? That who the Devils really were.

Face it the devils are sliding back to the cellar where they were in 1982 when they came to NJ.
Wouldn't even try to give you instruction on Hockey because you're almost Canadian and you know everything

I can't help thinking how funny this must seem to Montreal and Detroit fans.

Wings have won the cup more than twice the number of times the devils have made it to the finals As for the "reality of missing the playoffs every once in a while," I don't know that reality. I wasn't able to walk or speak the last time the wings didn't make the playoffs!

Alright alright, I can't speak for PatsRS but it was all in good fun from my standpoint. As much as I hate the Rangers, I enjoy the rivalry the two teams share and any good rivalry *has* to extend off the ice and to the fans as well.

But seeing as the Devils failed to make the playoffs, despite being the best team in the NHL during the seconds half of the season, and the Rangers managed to qualify to take a run at the Cup, I will admit defeat to PatsRS for now. But I won't wish his team good luck!

I gotta say again how awesome that playoff series between our two squads was in '94. Definitely one of the best playoff series I've ever seen and I would dare say one of the best ever. 3 (or maybe 4?) of the 7 games went to overtime.

I couldn't sleep for about 3 hours after Matteau scored that goal...I was crushed! Especially after having my hopes raised by Zelepukin's goal with 7 seconds left in regulation to tie it...

i wouldve loved to see the devils make the playoffs just because of how bad they were early in the season. that 2nd half run was ridiculous

Yeah, I had given up on them entirely and then they went on that mad tear. The fact that they had even given their fans a glimmer of hope after that dismal start was fantastic.

I feel bad for Johnny (MacLean), he was a huge part of the Devils' organization...one of my favourite players back in the day after Kirk Muller....but as a coach he sucked. He had to go and the trigger should have been pulled in November.

Only question now is....who's gonna replace Jacques for next season?
