Are you supposed to clean stainless steel exhausts?

Hey I have a stainless steel b&b catback with ARH headers and this may seem like a stupid question but- am I supposed to clean them after a while or is it okay to leave them be? If so how do I do it cause I had someone else install them and i dont know much about removing them if thats what u have to do. I have put like 2k miles on them.

Thanks guys,

Grant

Hit them with P21s' Multi-Surface Finish Restorer.

Are you talking the whole exhaust and headers or just the tips?

The headers and the areas near the cats are going to discolor, that is a natural process. It will turn either a slight bluish gray or in some cases a redish brown.

Sometimes it takes a bit more to get stains off. Polish or even abrasives need to be used. I was able to hand polish an exhaust tip on one of my vehicles that was just raw stainless. Looked good for many years. I started with strips of raw "Scotchbright", went to strips of emery cloth and then used metal polish. VERY labor intensive.

One thing that I think about is some of the weld area corrosion I've already seen on some exhaust systems in pictures I've seen posted here. It looks like the manufacturers have not prepped and cleaned the parts after being welded. for the most part, this is only a cosmetic flaw and will not cause problems.

In small areas like this it is possible to spot clean using some mild acids with fresh water flushes. This link provides some info: http://www.mmsonline.com/articles/ho...ss-steel-parts

I know it's anal, but I do worry about rust and corrosion...

The P21s will work on everything. Mind you, it will be a lot of work. The discoloration in the headers is from the extreme heat directly off the headers and is normal and in most incidences will not be altered but you can clean up the rest of the pipes, as well as the tips with P21s as well as English Custom Metal Polishes and they make a product specifically for high heat environments like headers on motorcycles and this product has immense success in keeping motorcycle headers spotless.

Nope, not harmful at all if you don't. In fact, your arms won't hurt as much as they would if you do.
