Silver Ice 2SS

Since Rick Hendrick bought the first Camaro for $350k [Mine will be a little cheaper then that!!] and it is a Silver Ice 2SS model, does that mean that Silver Ice orders get produced first?

Some of the threads I read stated that the production line could make all models, and all colors one right after the other.

Then you hear how the gray cars are waiting for the Impala run to be completed??

I'm hoping they go by color. And I'm #2 at my dealer[Same Silver Ice 2SS], with #1 being a yellow one.

I'm trying to pry some information from my dealer on my order status-- got to wait til Monday. Oh well, guess I'll go see Friday the 13th on Saturday the 14th.

yA ......AFTER they spray 10,000 Silver and then 8900 RJT, 9300 yellow and 20,000 red they are going to paint the black one's. If you want the blues they will be last so better order a silver one if you want your's before Sept!

Very helpful post.

Not that I need to explain myself, but with approx 11,000 pre-orders, and only a small portion being accepted for initial production, I was wondering
what criteria GM could be using to decide what cars to mfr first.

If they do it like the corvette, they try to paint in small batches so they dont waste paint and its more environmentally friendly. You guys dont think they flush the sprayers after every car do you?

There's no flushing. They can paint a single car all the colors if they felt like it.

If its anything like the way they paint the vettes you are wrong.

Heres a good video for anyone interested in gm's painting process. If you dont want to watch the whole thing but want proof they paint in batches, go to 1:30.

For example. If 10 cars in a row needed to be painted a different color each. there would be no switching of paints. Every paint booth has different robots/bells that paint a specific color. Therefore any clor combonation can be applied with no switching time. as i stated before, if you really wanted to, you could have a red, black, orange, white, blue, cyber gray metallic color on the same car. Although Gm would never let it out of the paint booth.
Even if I was wrong the point of the original question was large batches for days or weeks at a time that could affect order delivery date. And they don't do that in either case.

How do you know what color car he is ordering? The one that was shown during the auction isn't the car he is getting.

I thought I read it somewhere's that it was going to be a silver 2ss with black stripes. thought it was on this board?? I'll see if I can find it.

I guess as far as the original question, it seems as thought color is not a deciding order preference factor- as long as the color is available.

Heavyt100 who is behind him at his dealership said that's what he got. I guess he liked what he saw at the auction.
