Will Paint stay on Ground effects?

I was wondering if anyone had any issues with painting their Ground effects. I am waiting for my 2LT RS to arrive and would like to have them painted and then a clear coat installed by the Shine factory.

My dealer was showing an autobody guy the back of a 1SS (black area between the exhaust on the rear). He thought that would be the same texture as the Ground Effects and the paint would have a hard time adhering. Can anyone tell me if it is a smooth texture to paint and if it has lasted for you.

Painted a set about a year ago they are still doing good, maybe a couple of stone chips from the tires thats it. If your removing them to paint get some extra clips on order, they can break when you take the fx off and are sometimes on back order through G.M.

Had mine a year with no paint issues. The GFX were an after thought I bought off of Craigs List.

It will be ok to paint the ground effects, most of the people have them painted to match the car. Here are a few pictures that I've found.
They are NOT of my car.

Mine are painted body color as well... they look great and I've had comments that it makes the car look lower

Main thing just take it to a good paint shop .
They should have some plastic bonding agents and flex agents to help the paint stick better to plastic .
If they dont, the paint may chip and flake off over time ( sometimes even during install ) .

Can you take them off without leaving any damage to the body?

I installed my own using the latest install kit. If you mean removing and not putting them back on No. The front has pieces that require drilling the bumper to install the bracket. The rear has drilling also but in the wheel well area. You will have to buy an installation kit to reinstall the front from what I have heard....and I would agree it would be a bear to remove intact.

Really appreciate the pics and advice everyone. I ordered black, would rather paint so it all matches.

Here are a couple of pics right after I picked it up from the dealer in June of 2009. The dealership also painted and installed mine.
