When I take my car to the dealership I take pictures of every angle of the car with my IPad, including the wheels. I also have my wife do a walk-around with me. At the dealership I have the service advisor do a walk-around. When I pick up my car I perform another walk-around before I leave. Paranoid? Maybe, but it avoids unexpected issues with the dealership regarding damage to the vehicle.

How would the dealership fix this, would hey have to replace the fender that got pushed out or what? And good luck with your repair op.

When I took mine in back in April to get new tires installed the Service Advisor took pics of every side and angle of my ZL1 including the wheels. Of course when I got the car back I checked the wheels/new tires and found a scratch on one of the rear wheels which was done when the new tires were installed. Their wheel guy they use had the covid virus and was on lockdown so it couldn’t be repaired quickly so I paid a wheel guy to repair it a day later for $100.00. The Service Advisor told me he would give me a credit for the money I spent for the repair and bring the receipt to him the next time I come in. May use it for an oil change when the ZL1 needs one.

Yea I like that level of quality control. I’m cutting people slack right now because of the covid stuff. But the whole drop keys and pick up keys and no talking to anyone after the service is kinda crappy. I literally just took the key from the valet kid and then he was gone... prefer a little more customer service usually but I know things are weird for the workers right now. I was super excited to finally be done for the most part and just enjoy the summer with the car and now I’m still waiting and hoping it gets fixed and finished. Good thing their cancelling most of the car shows otherwise I would losing out on that too waiting on the dealership.

Oh well I can take care of that I guess even though I shouldn’t have to. Figured if everything else is good no huge deal. Then I get over by the driver door/front fender and notice the Gap between the door and fender are off quite a bit. Fender is flared outward away from the car so Follow it down to the side skirt/rocker area and yea crushed in/dents in it. Assuming from lifting the car incorrectly. Right side seemed ok. Supposed to call them back Tuesday since they are so busy. So just wanted to see what you guys think as far as how they should handle this and where I stand with expectations Or compensation etc... the price and timeframe was great but obviously that came at a cost.. wish I was in my new place/nice garage where I could do this stuff myself like I normally do. For the record the dealership is pretty decent overall compared to others I’ve been around so want to give them the chance to make good on this. Thanks again!
If they don't say they'll take care of everything, you send them a letter making the complaint, document the damage up close, show the marks. Summarize your conversation that you had. Include the records of the original work that was done. Put all of this together in a statement (a few pages long) and ask them how they intend to fix the situation, give them 10 business days to reply (put that in the letter). Send the letter certified return receipt mail. If they start trying to weasel out of it, take them right to small claims court or get a lawyer involved. You have them dead to rights and they should realize that and do the right thing. If they don't, do not waste your time trying to talk with people who can later just deny you even talked to them, go to written correspondence.

I took my 2011 vert in because the second top replacement failed. The corded top had a cord that broke and was hanging out and blowing in the wind. They kept it for 3 days to replace the top. I leave with the car and an hour later, as Im driving, something tells me to verify its a new top. So I pull over, retract the top halfway and look in...they tied a knot in the string!

I can promise you, when I walked into the showroom, NO ONE bought a car while I was there! They told me the service manager had already left for the day. I wasn't having it and I wasn't leaving and I was telling everyone!

It seems he could get back to the office pretty quickly...

They already deceived you. I wouldn't wait on them, every day that goes by, the more likely they will deny it was them.

Yea they won’t give me the run around. At least I hope not. This is the first car I’ve had with a manufacturer warranty still in tact. Always bought used and private previously. And surprisingly never had any issues with that. And like I said before I’ve Always done my own car work up until my temporary move. This is a good reminder as to why. I also was a store manager for 18 yrs for a major retailer so pretty much wrote the book on customer service and how it should be handled. I’m just new to car dealerships so I wanted as much info as possible depending on how it plays out. I appreciate all the comments and will def use some of what I learned if they try to give me trouble.

simple reason I do all my work. When I bought my 16 brand new it came with free oil changes and tire rotations after the second oil change I noticed some things that made me question the work. The next time I went in I discreetly marked the tires and oil filter upon picking up the car I checked my markings on the spot and yep you guessed it all they did was reset the oil monitor back to zero like they did the change. I immediately walked into the service managers office and I asked him to come with me and showed him what I had done. He shook my hand said thank you and proceeded to take my car and do the oil change and tire rotation himself and allowed me to watch. Never ever again will I take a car to a dealership for any work unless its a warranty issue. Im also thankful as a kid I watched my father tinker on cars and I in turn started taking small engine repair classes in 7th grade all the way to my senior year where I was going to a tech school to work on cars. Im now in my mid 40's retired and do all my own mods, tear downs and rebuilds all by myself. Problem with todays society is they don't respect other people sh!t like they do their own, and thats pathetic. Karma is real.

I’m with ya! This is the first car I’ve ever had that someone else did the oil change on. Sucks you go this long without ever having someone work on your stuff and the one time you do it gets messed up! Pretty sad. Funny my dad was more mad than I was. He’s old school and never lets anyone work on his stuff. Not that he’s wrenching much anymore in his old age but still. If that had happened to him he would have burned the building down lol!

This also proves another point. I know a lot of people that disagreed with my never owning a new car or taking advantage of leasing, warranties, dealer loaner cars or no hassle so you don’t have to worry about anything and whatnot but I can honestly say it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I mean what good is all that protection when it’s comes with sub par quality control? Just my two cents. Plus I think most of those people im talking about drive crossovers or hybrids and just need to get from point A to B so not really comparible I guess! Lol

Update on the dealer service, so they were pretty good about everything. Kinda did the “I didn’t see any damage “ at first... but then I showed them. Long story short their gonna get the hardware out of the trunk lid and fix the rocker panel lift damage, and on top of that their gonna fix the scratches and wear and tear on the front fascia for a major discount. And their letting me have a loaner while their doing the repairs. I’m pretty happy with all that. Goes in next Wednesday. I’ll update after the service is complete.

Don't forget the people who trade up every few years even with their Camaros. Good to hear that the dealer is taking care of you.

Good luck. The dealers around me are really particular about inspecting the car for damage when picking it up. If you call them the day after, they will swear up and down you did it and hang up.

YMMV.
