It looks like you have a coolant leak to me. There’s a coolant outlet pipe shown as #16 in this diagram that other members have had leak issues with. I’d start there but also check all upper/lower radiator hose clamps, the overflow hose, etc. Also check your coolant level immediately. Given what’s going on, I’d check the level in the overflow bottle and take the plastic engine cover off, remove the coolant cap by the power steering pump, and see what the coolant level is in the block. Is the car throwing any codes at this time?

It's my understanding that the gaskets at the water pump can fail. That could explain the steam from the back of the engine, and loss of coolant.

If your cooling system is not pressurized, the boiling point of the coolant goes down and you will overheat.

Since you can see steam escaping the system, you have that problem. Even if you keep adding coolant, your car will continue to overheat and lose coolant.

Also check your coolant temp sensor. My water pump was leaking and after we changed it the coolant temp sensor went out. Was driving with new coolant full and the temp ran up to hot and said the car was overheating. Disconnected it for a few hours til i got a new one and problem solved.
