Working is definitely challenging but I'm picking away at it. Had my son carry the front end into the shop, then I marked off the areas and then trimmed away the excess sheet metal to allow for the headers to pass through to the fender wells. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the front end on so I can final position the collectors.

It may be a while, working is a bit difficult.

I did get the front end on to check for clearance for the headers and I have tons of room. I had the collectors positioned as far forward as I would have liked to be. , now with the front end on I can move them back 4 inches. Tomorrow I will get the collectors clamped in their final location, remove the front end again and start on the headers.

Actually got a good start on the headers. Positioned the collectors, removed the front end and started on the primary tubes. I got #7 and #8 tacked in place and started on #5 and #6. Tomorrow I'm hoping to do a little more but have a doctors appointment that will kill a lot of time. All in all I'm actually good with the progress all things considered.

Plugging away at the headers. Tomorrow I will do the #2 and #3 primary tubes then I can start the welding. I may only tac them for now because welding is a bit challenging in this sling.

I have a little more welding to do but I've got headers. Plenty of room for easy plug removal which is a good thing because frequent valve adjustments are needed with this big of a cam. I should be able to finish them tomorrow, then I will finish locating the second joint for the steering shaft and button that up. I think from here I may jump back into the motor and set up the fuel pump and distributor and then the carburetor.

Decided to stick with the headers today. I'm to the point where everything I work on should be taken to completion. Finished all the welding and de-burring. Tomorrow I will media blast them and give them a quick coat of paint so they don't rust. I will still have to weld in the cutouts but that will be done when I do the exhaust system.

Started tying up a few loose ends on things I started before my surgery. I had made a pedestal for the shifter but it was never actually mounted so I went ahead and located it's final position and got it bolted in. I was able to get the trans. linkage on but I won't be able to do the cable until I'm further along with recovery. I also added another joint and support for the steering. Now there is plenty of clearance around the headers and the joint angles have been greatly reduced.

Thanks, it's coming along considering. My plans were to have it on the road by this coming week, one year after pulling it apart. oh well, sometimes life sucks. lol.

I had doctors appointments and PT today so I didn't have a chance to do anything. I did order the carburetor for it and should have it tomorrow so I'm planning on finishing off a bit more on the motor. Fuel pump,distributor intake and carb are next for final installation.

Got the fuel pump installed, got the distributor in but will come out one more time. I need to look at the timing tables from my last tune so I can use it as a base line for setting up the timing curve on the distributor. Should get me real close. The carburetor also came in, tomorrow I will figure out throttle cables and linkages, fuel lines, plug wires and all the little loose ends to button up the motor.

Hi all.

Haven't posted much, recouping from the shoulder surgery is a long process so I still have very limited use of my left arm but I've been picking away at it. Decided on finishing up the wiring and engine components. I needed to install a temp and oil switch compatible with analog gauges so I tapped the existing holes to accept standard pipe fittings, this made for simple clean sending unit mounting. I them took a bunch of 10mm bolts, drilled holes in the heads and tapped them. Now wherever I need a clamp for the wiring harness I simply screw one in the many 10mm holes on the block and head instead of wire ties every where. Now the wiring harnesses are clean and neat yet easy to access in case of needed service. I started routing the plug wires and figuring out how I will drive the altenator and water pump. I ordered an altenator and should have it tomorrow. Then I will make the mount for it. The set up that is referenced through GM Performance is $1800.00 bucks, they must be nuts. lol.
