Allstate Insurance

I just got a quote from Allstate for home & auto, looks at first blush like a potential substantial savings. I have to do an apples to apples comparison with my current policy to see the actual numbers.

I am looking for the pro's and con's of Allstate as my insurance carrier, so if you have any real world experience I would like to hear the good, bad and ugly. I know they have been around forever but I would like to hear from current and former policy holders before I consider jumping ship. Thanks!

From MY experience, Allstate started off as saving more money than everyone else for the same coverage, so I dropped State Farm and went Allstate. Then price bump creep set in. Every single year, my insurance kept going up, and up, and up...no real explanation. Now I went back to State Farm. Better service, better prices for the same coverage, and seems more personable. But that just might be my agent.

Reminds me of DirecTV. They get you in the door, then rape you.

Had the same problem with them. They were savings up front, but the rates became ridiculous. Ended up switching to Travelers when I had my Camaro.

I have USAA for my insurance. When I got a quote from AllState I almost crapped myself. So much more expensive.

Thanks for the info so far, keep it coming. My current policy (home & auto) also goes up every year. So those of you who switched from Allstate do not see yearly increases?

Same thing as others have said with Allstate.....had them for years.....never had an issue when I needed their service (in over 15 years I had 3 towing claims, a windshield replaced, a collision with a deer carcass $1800, and 2 $500 vandalism claims)...but it seemed like every 6 months they would have a "rate increase in your area". I finally got fed up and decided to call Geico since I didn't qualify for USAA. Geico cut my bill by over 50%. I was so shocked that when I got the quote online I thought it was a mistake and called the 800 number to speak to someone. Had them for over a year now and have 0 issues with Geico so far....but then again no claims either. At the time I called Geico I got quotes from 3 or 4 different major companies as well...they all beat my rate with Allstate by $300 to $400 every 6 months.

When I told people my experience with getting the much better rate a few told me that its good to shop the rates about every 3 years or so.

Had Allstate on one of my cars years ago.
Was involved in a car accident, they dropped me like a hot potato. I believe it was more due to my age at the time (19-20) but never tried getting insurance from them.

had all state for years and they kept promising me that my rates would go down and it never did, after 20 some years I ditched them and went with Erie. went from 120 to 57.40 a month back when I had my 2010 1LT camaro. then when I got my SS it only jumped to 58.03, now it went down for the third time with the SS, now paying 57.78 a month. Erie is regional but if they are an option in your area I strongly recommend them!

I know this is a old post but I wanted to add my input to help anybody for future reference.

I am 42 and we reside in MD. I have a clean driving record and have not had any claims in over 5 years. Me and My wife have been with Allstate for over 20 years now and have always been pretty happy. We just purchased a ZL1 Saturday.
we traded in our 2011 Tahoe. Tahoe was $500 (Full) every 6 months. We have 4 kids and 3 of them are all driving there own vehicles so I get a multi car discount.

I had a 2010 Camaro 2SS and my insurance on that car was $468 every 6 months.
Well Allstate gave us our price for the The ZL1. $1000 every 6 months
We were both floored. "Actually we both broke into tears"

yes we are looking at other companies now.

Some of the high prices are agent driven. I've had Allstate for over 35 years and was with my agent since coming to NY in 2000. I was paying about $1400/6 mo. for full coverage on an '05 Avalanche, '11 Equinox, and the ZL1. He retired last year and the new agent who took over called and said they were reviewing clients and it looked like I was paying too much. They came back with more coverage at $725/6 mo. I asked why I was not given this plan before and they said you had to ask the previous guy about that stuff, he would just write you the one he could get the most commission for. Guess it never hurts to pound them at every renewal.

Allstate is currently offering me a rate 66% less than what I'm paying now. Hmmm
