Car Registration

Do you leave it in the car or carry it in your wallet?

Just curious.

My wallet is big enough the way it is, it stays in the glove box.

Was always trained to not leave things like this in the glove box - for the reason being if someone breaks into your car.. congrats now they know where you live and have enough information to put the puzzle pieces together and take your identity

You don't need the registration for this. License plates are public domain. All they have to do write down you license plate number and they can get all the information that your registration contains.

Where'd you get this information from? Not flaming but I was TRAINED not to. Not looking to argue but to educate.

The public record is almost a myth created by people who take pictures of their cars and post them to social media.

License plates are public record, yes. But googling a license plate will not get you information. States vary on what information can be released with a plate number. And often times it requires a formal request to retrieve information on that plate. Also, you can do this through a private company and pay a small fee. Thus, would a petty car thief go through all the trouble to find your house? Typically not. Would a car thief use your information that you left in your car to use your credit card online? Most likely.

As stated above...the State of Texas issues a new sticker every year that must be displayed in the front windshield (next to the inspection sticker) so I do not keep any paperwork in my car.

On a BS side note...beginning next year the State of Texas will no longer renew a car's registration and issue a current sticker to anyone without current proof of a passed inspection for the vehicle. I guess that's one way to get my Mustang off the road...lol

While I agree with your logic, identity theft is not the issue with a name and address. What you should be worried about is having your garage door opener and the registration, that gives access to your home as most don't lock the door from garage to house.

Oh, I know that . Just didn't want to jump that far into it. I'm paranoid enough but have preventative measures in place.

Camaro's have been a target here recently and even more so a reason for we to be vigilant against these perps.
