Should I get a pickup?

Here's my situation. My current DD/practical vehicle is a 2012 Equinox LTZ. It's a great vehicle with low miles (about 32K) and is paid off. But lately I find myself wanting a pickup truck, specifically a GMC Canyon. I don't really see a need for a full-sized, though I could probably get one for around the same price. I've been in touch with a couple dealers but I put the communication on hold for now.

I bought a new house about a year ago and I'm trying to convince myself that the truck would be more practical. I'm not a big do-it-yourself-er or anything but there have been a few times already where a truck may have been more beneficial than an SUV for hauling purposes. Then again, the covered back of the SUV is good for transporting things when the weather is bad. I don't have kids but I'd get a crew cab for times when I might have passengers.

I'm just trying to get some neutral perspectives. I feel like part of me may be trying to fill the new car void that was created by my currently stored Camaro. I don't necessarily want another car payment but I could afford it and I feel like if a truck is in my future anyway it's better to trade in the Equinox now when it'll be worth more than ever. I also have $1000 of my GM Card earnings plus an additional $750 bonus I got to put towards it.

Let me know what you guys think.

Be aware, once you go truck, you can never go back.

Every time I consider selling my truck, a dozen things come along that remind me that I cannot live without it.

Yeah, my next vehicle will be a truck, most likely a Colorado or Canyon Diesel. Love my Envoy but I miss being able to chuck whatever into the bed and go.

If you have the finances, space, and can take the FE hit (unless you get a diesel), go for it.

I'd say get a truck if the money is right. Even if you buy a used one (5 years old) and only use it for hauling stuff every once in a while.

This is funny. I'm in about the same situation only i've been wanting to get a SUV.

I purchased my Camaro in October and also have a 2007 Silverado that is paid off as my DD. I've been looking at Equinox, Trailblazer, Envoy, Traverse and even Jeeps. Can't find anything that was in my price range with low enough miles though.

94k miles on my Envoy. $34k and it's yours.

It's just a coincidence that's how much my Colorado Duramax would cost. No correlation there whatsoever.

Also sounds like you have plenty of reliable transportation. I'd really sit down and make sure there wasn't something in the near future that might change my decision on adding a car payment. Sounds like your in good shape, but just something to consider.

You may very well be wanting another vehicle because the Camaro is in the garage. Mine was in the garage for 5 days and every single day I looked at SUV's for sale. The last 3 days I drove the Camaro and haven't looked at SUV's for sale. Kind of weird how that works.

Caution! People will find you, maybe some you haven't seen in a while. Uncanny.

I definitely don't need a diesel. I'm assuming FE - fuel efficency. My Equinox gets about 16 or 17 mpg around town so if it's comparable to that I'm happy.

I may know someone trying to sell a low mileage, well maintained, Equinox LTZ

Man that's a good price for the diesel. I'm looking at two bare bones SLE's. I'm not picky other than color, crew cab, and 4WD. Remote start would be nice but I can get that put in aftermarket.

So far I got $33,500 for a 2017 and $34,800 for a 2016 (no typo on the years). Identical trucks, but the dealer with the '16 doesn't seem to want to budge. I'm kind of surprised these dealers aren't trying harder to get rid of the 2016's but if my research was correct the '17's have only been out since October. Kind of late.

Part of me wants to wait until I get it back out in the event that is the case, but that also means the Equinox is a little older and the mileage is higher. Plus I won't have my $750 in bonus earnings! If I get what I want for the trade and get a good price I'm thinking around $250/month payment. Not horrible.

So you are looking at mid-size? I understand they are flying off the shelves. I flirted with one a few months ago. The dealer stuck to the listed price so I stopped corresponding. It was gone the next week.

LOL

This is what alot of my friends with trucks have learned. Once you have a truck, you are the default go to friend to help people move

Bought my 1st truck in 85. Didn't need a truck but wanted 4X4. With exception of a 2000 Blazer 4X4 I've only owned trucks and Corvettes. My last one is a 2014 Tacoma Off Road. Think Colorado was only all wheel then. Looked at a Colorado a couple months ago. Didn't seem there was much size difference between that and a full size. Overall length diff ~ 12"

Seems like each year the Colorado gets bigger and bigger. I had one next to me at a stop light the other day (in my Silverado) and it was just as tall as mine. I test drove a Colorado when i bought my Silverado and I remember it being twice as small.
