Drivetrain clunk after diff bushing

Hey guys I swapped in a z/28 diff with hendricks offset bushing. When I go to shift I feel/hear a clunk, its not consistent but on a 1-2 I get it almost every time, 4th gear and above it goes away. Other threads have mentioned the diff bushings exaggerate our infamous drivetrain slack. Interested in what others have experienced and know abut this, thanks.

Yes, responded to your previous post "clunky gear engagement" a few minutes ago.

Did you do anything to improve it or just lived with it?

I'm using BMR delrin diff bushings and solid cradle bushing I get the clunk, we put the car on a drive on lift to check it out and it turns out to be the ring and pinion back lash, when you take out all the rubber bushings and mount everything solid it transfers a lot of noise that would be absorb by the rubber bushings.

I have Delrin cradle bushings as well so definitely more noise. On a different thread someone recommended I open it up and check the backlash as well. Did you correct the ring & pinion to the proper tolerance and it went away? Or just a byproduct of the bushings?

When I did the 4L80 conversion I also changed the rear gears to 3.73s and set the backlash to .006 to .008. also I checked the backlash on the 3.23s before I removed them and they were at .010 I think the manual says max is .012. after the convertion I had about the same clunk, also when I did the convertion I went with a one pc. chromoly drive shaft so that probably not helping my situation any.

I have the delrin offsets with my ZL1 diff and you can hear the lash. It gets even more amplified with the aluminum one piece driveshaft.
This noise is what it is and has not gotten any worse after many beatings.

Haha well dam, I want to say I'm a bit relieved. I'm going to check my backlash anyway just to be safe. Seems like the alternative is to go back to stock diff bushings or try with a softer poly. Thanks guys, very helpful!

It was an expected result of adding diff & cradle bushings...so I accept it. You are also likely to experience a little gear whine as well.

I picked up on a small whine last night but that doesn't bother me at all. Thanks!

I had the hard bushings in my differential for about a week. Couldn't stand it. Ended up going with BMR "street" bushings. Still much better than stock & took 75% of the clunk out of it.
