I really wanted to love the challenger when we bought our ss. We were looking at the new 8 speed auto while I think the factory transmission tune was better on the challenger I felt the same way you did. I could tell it was down on power even from the L99 in the higher rpms and at higher speeds.
I love big cars and if I could have afforded a scat pack or srt I would have gone that way. The challenger needs that big 6.4 which puts it in a whole different league imo. 6.4 is a beastly motor! I also almost got a 2016 charger rt as a compromise but my friends and family have had some really bad experiences with dodge and it is hard for me to shake it. Mustang is just to small like the new camaro as others have said. In all honesty I wanted a Chevy ss. It felt faster than my L99 to me but the wife wanted the camaro ss. Wife got here way.lol |

I agree with the challenger needing the 392 motor to make it fast. I Dont know what model cars your family bought but as far as quality, the Brampton, Ontario plant makes good reliable cars like the 300, Charger, Challenger, & once Magnum. I owned them all in various trim, they were all good, solid cars.

Oh yes, 3.92 gears makes you shift to 3rd to reach 60mph.
One reason why you can't reach 60 under 5sec like in the automatic 8 speeds.

Well - I do about 64mph in 2nd with 4.10's... but I don't think you can wind out to 6600rpm. Redline is what, 6,000 for that?

No, 5800rpm...that too is part of the problem. 2nd and 3rd are still peppy at the rev cutouf, it would needs another 500rpm to fully wind them out.

I will say the RT is quick. I was playing with one yesterday between lights. 0 to 90 kilometers. Keeping it safe and legalized. He couldn't pull on me and I could not pull on him. I have a 6th gen V6. You SS guys are going to be faster than an RT Challenger or V6 6th gen Camaro. But it was fun to mess around with.

I'm not sure how much it weighs to be honest with you but that's one of the biggest improvements between the generations is they made them quite a bit lighter. They're quite quick for what they are some guys with the automatics have done 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds which is pretty damn quick

I drove a 392 Scat Pak Challenger (I had to remove my review on here) and it was quicker then mine probably, but not by much. My car was waaaay better when we added turns.

I test drove a R/T a few years ago. Not long before I read a post on here how the l99 and R/T were of equal performance stock. The R/T was a tub .....didnt have the down low torque of the 6.2 and really didnt pull nearly as hard compared to my car when it was stock. Heavy and under powered gave the car a disadvantage. But I did like the room inside the car.....nice layout and very comfortable. The ride was also very good.....its not a road carver and if you accept that then you do appreciate it for what it is. But your right only the 392 and nothing less.
