will 3.73 gears make a noticable diff on an ls3?

It is definitely noticeable. When equipped with the manual transmission (M6) the SS comes with a 3.45 rear end and cruises at just over 1600 RPM at 70 MPH. By upgrading the factory 3.45s in the stock M6 equipped Camaro SS to the 3.73s you will realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 10% or 42 lb.-ft. of torque and cruise at 1750 RPM at 70 MPH.

With the ls3, if you're gonna do it, go with 3.90 or 4.10

I have AAM 3.70's behind my very mild LS3. Car should have come with 3.70's from factory or as an option in my opinion. 80mph is 2K rpms.

Just for curiosity, if you wanted to upgrade the rear gear, but you want to keep the same RPM when going in the highway, how hard would it be to open up the transmission and change the gears in there?
I want to put a 3.9 or a 4.1 rear gear, but I want to keep the car with the good MPG it makes... I was thinking how hard and expensive would it be to change the size of the 4th, 5th and 6th gear...
(as of right now I use 1-3 for fun and just acceleration, 4 for driving in the city, 5 for driving on a higher speed limit still in the city, like 35mph, and 6 for highway)

assuming you have an LS3....my experience with 4.10's...my mpg around town actually got slightly better because there's no more "motor lugging" and it's more "driveable" (clutch works better). And, on the highway at 70mpg in 6th, rpms are only 2000, plus, you can actually use 6th, and not have to downshift to pass anyone....so really you're not gonna take a big hit w/ mpg. 5th and 6th gear in the tr6060 are already soooo overdriven, I wouldn't worry about that (and the $$ it would take to change would pay for a lot of gas).

I do not believe there are different ratio gears available for the Tremec 6060. Even if they were, it would be very costly. The 3.70's and 3.91's keep your highway rpm down to a reasonable level which helps gas mileage. My car with 3.70's got 24.6mpg going to MTI's event at Roebling road last year, 420+ miles one way at speeds between 55mph and 90mph.

I don't know about how the MPG would be affected on mine, but I'm getting 27.5 MPG when going 60mph on 6th, and if I go 45 or 50 on 6th I get up to 33MPG. When I keep at 1.1KRPM it doesn't bog, but doesn't have much acceleration, but is enough to just cruise and save gas.
The only reason I care about the MPG is because me living in NC, I have my family in NJ and my girlfriend in FL, driving is way cheaper than flying... and I want to keep that way, so I can drive my car when I'm there.

I was even thinking about looking for a 7 speed manual transmission, so I could have the 4 fun gears, and 3 for the regular driving...
I just did a trip to virginia beach it was 193 miles, and it was mostly 55 and 70mph, quite a bit of stops. I averaged 51MPH, 26.2MPG, and I did have some fun on take offs.
I want to make the car more powerful so I can take to the track and get better times, but it's also my daily driver, so I need to make it economical too...

I drive maybe 1.2 miles to go to work every day, and the same back, and if I get 12 MPG I'm happy, it's just 25mph, then a 35 for maybe 0.1 mile, and a 15mph... (I'm about to buy a scooter to save in gas on going to work)
But I still use the car on drives here and there, and that requires some economical aspect to it, besides the long trips, where driving over 500 miles those 2MPG helps...

I went with LPE 3.90 gears and while my highway RPMs went up a bit, fuel milage was not changed dramatically. I would say less then 1 mpg drop and in my opinion, the feel of the lower gears is WELL worth the milage loss.

Damn... If my girlfriend didn't come to visit last week I would buy it... But I spent 700 on the hotel for a week, and over 400 on stuff to do... Thank god she paid for some the stuff to do and the plane ticket...
But I really wish I could buy it... The price is good, and from what it seems doesn't do much to the mpg...

With that M6, first gear is maxed waaaay to fast because of the 3.01 ratio. 9 to 11 is what I was always told is the total for low gear. The 3.90 or 4.10 is over 12 on the low gear total. Not for me. The 3.73 would be ideal!
