You know, the funny thing is, over in the Mustang Forums, their is no on going threads about the ZR1 at all, I even tried to keep them alive, but it wasn't possible.

I think it's pretty clear that Mustang owners respect the ZL1, but have no intention of ever buying one, or even have them on their radar. Strange.... Erik

I will be getting one. But yeah, most GT500 owners have already dismissed it.

I don't believe the 202mph limit, 3.7sec 0-60, and mid 11s 1/4 unless proven in a simulator.

Hot rod magazine

Who has a subscription? Did anyone notice the back of the cover says the gt500 is 650 hp and 250mph in big bold lettering? Lol, it has it correct everywhere else but that's a pretty big typo... A good write up on the 500 but from the sounds of it, it doesn't look good for us.

I read the article while I was in Barnes & Noble. The HR crew was there while Ford was doing some of their engine certification. Dyno sheets show 650HP at 6250RPM and 670HP at the redline of 7000RPM. Over 500 Lb. of torque was available at 2000RPM. It certainly sounds like a very strong motor. The question is can the GT500 get it to the ground and use it effectively without the tires going up in smoke?

in depth article on the 5.8 in the GT500.

Interesting that the code name for the new 5.8 and 2013 GT500 was Trinity. Was also the code name for the United States first Nuclear Test.

I'm not seeing the 250mph. I have the mag in front of me.

Ahh found it. In the table of contents, just had to flip another page.

Road and Track tested a 2011 Super Snake with all of the best SVT suspension parts on a perfect weather day and lots of traction chemicals on the track and it ran a best of 11.7 at over 120. The question then is if a base GT500 runs 12.2-12.4 with 550HP and the GT500 Super Snake runs 11.7 with 750HP, what will the 650HP GT500 run? I can't see it running faster than the Super Snake and since it's in the middle between the base and the Super snake on HP, it looks to me like about a 12 second car or just under depending on traction. I think the ZL1 will give the 2013 GT500 a good run for the money and I think the GT500 can't come close on a road course. Further, it's ugly!

its 200mph on the cover...the 2013 gt500 haver the same primary gears (ist is 2.66) as the zl1 but it has a 3.31 final drive while the zl1 make do with a more aggressive first gear (3.73). And the ZL1 can only rev to 6200rpm while the gt500 will rev at 7000rpm (it will 62mph in first like the z06)
The make do with the same tires but a bit slimmer on the gt500.

We will see who will win but as is i feel the zl1 competition is the 2012 gt500 and thats the comparison im wayting to see.
Id love a ls9 zl1....that would be the monster....but they wouldnt put a 24k engine in a 55k car would they?
