2011 Mustang 5.0L vs 2010 Camaro SS Dyno Results

Hi guys,

We had a local customer drop by with his new 5.0L Mustang. Given you guys are going to run into one on the street, I thought I would show you a comparison of exactly what these cars make to the tires on a dyno.

Not that I would have to tell you, but the Camaro is shown by the green lines on the dyno.

Just for kicks we through in a 6.0L 2006 M6 Corvette as well, shown by the blue lines below.

Just what most suspected. The 5.0 makes identical PEAK HP but makes it further up in the power band and the 6.2 is the tq monster.

2 things missing here that the dyno does not factor for:

1. Less weight
2. Better gearing

You guys have to remember the 5.0l is geared miles more aggressively then the ss even with the low 3.31 rear end (3.66 first gear-3.73 rear end for the 5.0 and 3.01 first gear for the camaro and 3.45 rear end PLUS the fact that the mustang 235/50/18 and 255/40/19 are 2 inch shorter tires then the ss giving an advantake of 0.24 gearing piting the 3.73 to 3.97)

A car mag (cant remember which one of the 3 us big ones) tested the max torque in gears....
-ss 1600 pounds of thrust
-5.0l 3.73 axle 2200 pounds

So the dyno dont tell the entire story and stock for stock even if less torquy engine .

The mustang is the torque monster of the 2 because even if it got 10 less tq its geared 30 % more aggressively!

The dyno measures engine performance. The LS3 shows it to be stronger than the 5.0.
Put the same gearing in both cars. What motor do you want now?

with a flash right now (base xct tuner flash ) they rev 7500rpm...i wouldnt do that to a STOCK ls3 that would be useless

Not to turn this into another vs. thread....

Ford is doing almost the same thing with 1.2L less. That is impressive.

I have owned both the SS 6.2 M6 and the new 5.0 M6 and without a doubt my GT is faster regardless of what the dyno says. (I am talking bone stock 5.0 vs. my old 6.2 with a CAI and cat-back.)

Why cant we just admitt they are neck and neck Geeze.

I have driven both and imo they are neck and neck ! both very fast cars yes the mustang feels leighter however the torque on the camaro SCREWS excitement.

Both ford and gm made awsome cars.

Now mod those two cars and then we can see which car is stronger.

It is a little faster due to weight and gearing, but that is not what we are discussing. The dyno clearly shows the LS3 is more powerful. You put same gearing and same weight and you would see the LS3 walk away. I'm not saying the Camaro is better or faster, just that from just a motor standpoint, the LS3 has more power.
