2010 SS1- new head unit question

I'd like to install an aftermarket head unit as it will let me have a hands-free option for my phone, a back-up camera and integrated nav system, streaming music etc.

The issue is that I don't have steering wheel controls (not changing cars to get that, lol). In the DIY thread I learned that GM will no longer update the computer to allow the car to recognize the steering wheel controls if I installed them. So, the question is, do those controls always go through the computer system? I mean, if I put the controls in, could he new head unit make use of the controls (with or with out an adapter)? Or, does the adapter work in conjunction with the computer? Thanks.

IIRC the controls are wired just nit plugged in. May be wrong but once you get the new kit ( hoping you go PAC ) it ha sWC already. follow guide and hook up. should recognize once you get the wheel with controls.

Ok, 1) Why do you like the PAC over the other options? 2) So you think that even if I can't get the controls programmed to the car that the new unit with maybe the adapter will 'see' and understand those controls?
Thanks

The wheels swap, and the plug ought to be there when re-assembling. i may be wrong. Pac kit is simple, clean and retains the oem look on the AC. doesnt look cheap like the rest. i have done quite a few of them and love the kit.
