The LS7 is pretty close to a track set up race worthy engine. Isn't that what you(anyone) want in a Z28?

I've heard those were a bitch to tune and not very good for the street. Z/28's didn't come from the factory with them.

Yes the headers and cross ram were in the trunk, yet dealer installed.

Out of the 30 or so Z/28 owners I knew back in the day, none of them was running the crossram on the street.

I run a lot of blower cars. They all carry extra weight where I don't want it. The LS7 is THE motor that is available from the GM parts bin for a Z/28. Now if they have some extra brackets, hoses, clamps and mounts to help the dry sump tank get located in the trunk close to the right rear tail light... and an oil cooler setup with -12 lines... and maybe seam weld the sub-frames... and...

Can you tell we were at the track yesterday testing with Lingenfelter and Bruce Raymond?

I'd like to see someone take a 1LE and modify it to how the the Zlievers want then take it around a track.

The LPE L/28 has a 427... There is no mystery in how to make a two ton 5th Gen do ballet on a road course while and delivering daily driver joy.

Is the intent to build a clear overdog in the NA "ponycar" segment or to build to more directly target the primary competition?

I still think a 6.0L short stroke version of the LS7 would be enough to match the Boss without stepping on any (perhaps sensitive) Corvette toes, and might be a little cheaper to build.

Don't bother trying to compile any engine variations on this board, nobody will listen..I know that sounds harsh but I have nothing but sarcasm lately since all I have been saying and no one seems to get the fact that I think GM should step up their game in the engine department. They all want the LS7 and rest on their laurels that is it the biggest, most NA HP in the Camaro. My question always is, do we really need an LS7 in the Z/28 just to COMPETE with the "BOSS'? the resounding answer will be of course or why not. Well I would surely hope that with an engine with 2.0L more in displacement could beat the Boss "302" to me that is just like bringing a gun to a knife fight. Part of the reason to come to these boards is to read, get insider info and speculate..

We might agree if GM would actually do that but they won't. We say the LS7 because it is the only engine GM has currently that fits the Z28 knowing that GM will not modify their engines in any way.

Which makes it a bit ironic that the original Z/28 powerplant was a 327 block/283 crank crossbreed . . . and that a 3.48" stroke on 4.40" centers crank (where have I seen those numbers before) LS7 derivative works out very nicely to 6.1L . . . Just sayin'.

yeah it's all ironic, because there is a slew of GMPP's engines and hot cams and all kinds of accessories that they have in their bins but choose not to fool around and certify the stuff for a regular production engine. If you look on JEGS, right now they have a LS3/525HP motor there for like $500 bucks more than a regular LS3..go figure, I am sure that motor would do fairly well in a Z/28..just sayin'
