Rick Wagoner announced GM will reduce it's dealer base from 6100 to 4200 by 2012.Is your hometown store in that number?

My understanding is that they're planning on ditching mostly dealers in metro areas where there's already dealers vs cutting dealers from rural areas where there's only one in a large area.

Small town dealers are hurting,so a buy out by GM might be considered by them.Large dealers can down-size it's hard to down-size when your inventory is 50-75 units.

well you can mark off 426 Saturn dealers right away. those will definately be going away. Here there are 4 chevy dealers in a 20 mile radius.. that seems a little much in my book.
so if you assume they will be elimiating one third of the dealerships (close to 1/4 of thm Saturn)then probably one of ours will be gone.
we also have 3 Pontiac Buick GMC dealers, and 3 Cadillac dealers one of each of those could be closed.

I like that idea too Scott. GM really needs to do this. They have WAY too many dealers to be competitive today.

I'm waiting for what Obama's jack@ss car czar team will say about GM future plans. I'm sure most of these morons won't like any rear drive V8 cars that don't get 40mpg. After they say their peace, they leave on their chartered private jets paying just first class fares for the trip. Man, I need to sit down and take a break..

We lost 2 this past week here. We are not metro but not really rural either....now have 5 chevy dealers within 25 miles, but 2 of them are very low volume.

All I know is that I love my Hedrick's Chevrolet here in Clovis, California!!! In fact, it was because of how much I liked the parts department guys here, over those at other dealerships I've dealt with (in the past), that made me decide on them when it came time for ordering this Camaro. Then when I met the main guy for ordering the car, along with a couple of the Mr. Hedrick's themselves...as far as I'm concerned, this was the only place for me to go!!! They've got a top notch crew here!!!

Doesn't this somewhat contradict anti-trust laws in effect? I mean, if a city like, say, San Antonio has three Chevy dealerships then that keeps each dealership honest when it comes to pricing. But if two of the three were to close, then what's to keep the last man standing from gouging prices like crazy?

Or does that not apply when there's multiple different car brands to choose from besides just Chevrolet?
