It's not that it's a bad engine, it's just that no one likes that engine. Modern German car guys probably are happy with their 6-cylinder turbo, especially given how smooth I6 is compared to V6. German car guys who miss the NA V8 stuff and American car guys are well, going to want an NA V8. There is actually a lot of talk of people saying that if ATS-V came with the LT1, they'd be much more willing to buy it. And other than the tunability and displacement tax advantage outside of North America, the LF4 doesn't really do anything better than LT1. Fuel economy is similar (even if the 3.6TT does a little better, it's a sports car, it's not a major factor; also, you likely have to never use the boost to get good gas mileage, in which case, why did you buy the car?), weight is similar once you consider the turbos and intercooler on the LF4, the centre of mass is more towards the back, sure, but DOHC also means higher centre of mass, V6 exhaust note doesn't sound as good as V8, and the reliability/longevity is likely worse due to being more stressed. Even the two advantages I mentioned beforehand are moot because these engines are not common, so the aftermarket support is pretty poor, especially when compared to the LS/LT family or the German 6-cylinder turbo rivals. GM also isn't really selling ATS-V/CT4-V BW outside of North America, so the displacement tax advantage is also not utilized. Some people make a big deal out of "oVeRhEaD cAmS". DOHC is old news at this point, people. Even the cheapest family cars have DOHC. Let me know when a camless engine happens, because that's actually interesting. Multiair is one example and it's actually nice to see how it works. Also, for CT4-V BW/M4 money, you can pick up a ZL1, which will rip a new one in the former two.

Yeah, if I were to buy a truck and tow, I would personally stick with the NA V8 stuff. I doubt the fuel economy benefit is there when you are towing and using the boost and parts are just more stressed in a turbocharged engine. Again, Ford forgot a slash. It should be Eco/Boost. Can't have both at the same time. Personally, I don't mind small turbo engines in family cars (though I still don't like turbo laaaaaaaaag), but I think GM and FCA's approach of sticking with NA V8 in their trucks make more sense to me.
