Near Tragedy Today

Many of you know about my granddaughter - I speak of her here every now and again. In fact I recently posted something about how she and I went out to our favorite driving place in the desert this past weekend so she could practice with the manual tranny in the 2015 vert. She drives all my cars and at 16 with a permit, she's my chauffer whenever she comes to visit. This young lady is truly a light of my life. Talented, smart and funny and fun to be around.

I got a call from my daughter about an hour ago. Angelina was in a serious motorcycle accident on her dirt bike this evening out in Pahrump and had to be airlifted to the trauma center in Las Vegas.

Paramedics told my daughter they suspected she had a number of broken bones, including a collar bone, arm bone and possibly a wrist, possibly others. It'll be a long recovery, but she'll be fine but I still sit here on pins and needles waiting for an update. I can't drive after dark and my daughter said they wouldn't let anyone but parents go back and see her, otherwise I would be there.

It's going to be a long night.

I’m so sorry to hear. I’m a motorcycle crash survivor myself. If your interested I can find the long post I made about it and post it or send it to you via PM. It took me 3 1/2 months to walk again. I’m here if you need anything or to vent. Godspeed.

Hey thanks for the well wishes guys, most appreciated. And thanks to Aqua Blue for the nice text message.

In between x-rays and MRIs she called me on her mom's phone and gave me a run down on the events of the day. She sounded upbeat like she always is.

Apparently she was doing about 40 mph down an unfamiliar trail in the desert and came upon a large tangle of wire like mechanics wire (sort of like coat hanger wire) in the middle of the road. When she hit it, the bike went ass over tea kettle and then landed on top of her. It's a Honda XR200.

I'm thinking she will gain a new appreciation of paying attention to the road ahead, especially on unfamiliar trails, as a result of this experience.

So glad she is going to be all right. Thanks again guys.

Sorry to hear that. I'm a careful rider and still had an accident on every bike I owned. Hope she has a speedy recovery!

Man, could have been much worse. Glad to hear she's upbeat. If she's riding motorcycles she's probably a pretty tough gal. Luckily she's at an age of quick healing. Tell her to take it slow and follow the Docs instructions and before she knows it she'll be riding again.

(Hey, I figured out how to do multiple quotes, finally!)

Thanks for all the well wishes, folks! When I talk to her today, I'll pass all the comments in this thread along to her. She'll definitely get a kick out of it.

AZ28, she is definitely a tough kid. Been riding since she was about 8 years old and has always had zero fear of the dirt. Like RnR_Jeph, she has spilled every bike she has had but I'm hoping this little mishap though, will teach her a little more respect for the potential dangers out there.

Thanks again, guys.
