As has been stated numerous times, but apparently not fully accepted, the SS-1LE is more DIRECTLY equivalent to a GT 5.0 with Track Pack. BOTH are upgrades to the Base V8 Models.

There are reasons why the 1LE is NOT called a Z28.

If/When a Z28 appears, the BOSS will "know" a true "competitor" has arrived

Yeah that's great and all, but why should our hallowed Z/28 be compared to a car that is no longer in production? If GM waits till Ford is done making the Boss 302 to come out with the Z/28 then what's the point? Maybe so it won't have a competitor and therefore not hurt it's sales? Sure seems like putting their tail between their legs and waiting for their master to leave to start jumping around.

?????

And exactly where was this quote of GM? Please substantiate.

The ONLY thing that I'm aware of, that could possibly be construed (or twisted) in that manner, was in the Press Release, Page 1 of this thread, indicating a sub-3:00 lap @ VIR. That is quicker that last year's Lightning Lap time turned in by the BOSS LS. So, where is your direct quote that "they list the competitor for the 1LE to not only be the boss 302, but the boss 302 LS edition".

Page 5 on this pdf straight from GM themselves. Look at the key competitor listed:

Affirmative. You beat me to it. And mark me down as one of the few that thinks it will have no problem hanging with a Boss LS. Also maybe the Z28 competitor could be a mach1 or Bullitt, they haven't used that one this week.

New one on me. Hadn't seen that.

Road course performance? Pretty close, imho. 1/4-mile? We'll see.

Of course an LS7 and a name change would adequately insure BOTH.

Wouldn't expect much in the quarter mile from the 1LE. GM has already stated in the new brochure that the 1LE and regular ole SS have the same time. Plenty quick for me though. I expect the roadcourse numbers to be pretty close to the Boss.

You, me and everyone here knows an LS7 is never going to see its way into a Gen5 Camaro direct from the factory. I don't understand why people continue to put it out there.

How to build a Z/28. I already have two of them running circles around most everything on track.

That's how you know it's probably a lie, GM said it. :P I'm going to expect it to be a bit faster than an SS personally.

Why? Because it is the best answer to how to build a 5th gen Z/28. How can GM revive the Camaro and leave out the most iconic version of it?

I am updating this information because it looks when I did this calculation I made a mistake. Since the 1LE will be running 285/35-20 on the rear instead of 305/35-20 like the ZL1 it looks like the wheels are 27.9" tall. The SS are 28.7" tall which makes a difference in gearing. If this new information is correct. Here is the updated numbers I got:

Camaro SS:

1st: 54 mph
2nd: 79 mph
3rd: 114 mph
4th: 163 mph
5th: 194 mph
6th: 287 mph

Camaro 1LE:

1st: 53 mph
2nd: 79 mph
3rd: 108mph
4th: 140 mph
5th: 189 mph
6th: 280 mph

I rented a camaro some time ago and my impressions were. Engine: Excellent. Brakes: Excellent. Handling: Good....but not Excellent. However, the ride quality was amazing. Compared to the cars I have it handled like a luxury car which was impressive.

So naturally when they made changes to the suspension in 2012 I was going to get one of those, but now the 1LE package is available on the 2013's which seems exactly what I would want. Since this will be more DD and less track car (for now) I have to ask to make sure I'm making the right choice:

How much harsher are we talking about? The SS that I rented was excellent on bumps. I could live taking it from excellent to good in ride quality for excellent instead of good handling. I just don't know if I want to handle bone jarring.

As for the transmission. Are the cooling and gearing changes all there is or has it been beefed in other ways? Any changes to the syncro's or other parts?

I have also taken a look at the new final ratio and gear ratios and I am not a speed calculating expert, but here is what I got using this calculator. Can someone tell me if this is accurate or if I should go back to math class?

http://www.apexgarage.com/tech/gear_ratios.shtml

I used 27.8544 for the tire diameter, 6,600 for the rpm.

So with the 3.45 Final and the transmission gearing listed for the SS I get max speeds of
1st: 53 mph
2nd: 77 mph
3rd: 111 mph
4th: 159 mph
5th: 189 mph
6th: 278 mph

With the new 3.91 Final and the transmission gearing listed for the 1LE I get max speeds of

1st: 53 mph
2nd: 79 mph
3rd: 108mph
4th: 140 mph
5th: 189 mph
6th: 280 mph

It looks like first gear comes out to exactly the same.

Second gear is actually slightly taller on the 1LE, but very minimal (around 100 rpm)

Third gear is a little shorter on the 1LE, but not much again (around 100 rpm)

Now 4th gear is where you notice the shorter gearing of the 1LE.

The overdrives are pretty much exactly the same as well so it looks like you can still sip fuel in granny mode. Very nice. It looks like this is still a great daily driver.

Of course, that's if my calculations are correct???

My last impression of the rental camaro was that it was too damn quiet and refined, but I can see how some people might like that. I was going to solve that with an aftermarket exhaust, but maybe the dual mode exhaust on the 2013's will be exactly what I wanted stock!
