I'm back! and I have the same question when I bought the last 1LE
Hi everyone! With a year of using the dedicated porsche 944 track car, I miss the power of the 1LE (and the handling too) and I am ready to buy a new car. So I have the same dilemma as I did in 2014...what car should I buy this time around? here are my thoughts, please let me know what you would do (remember I track A LOT and can do 1:42's at Laguna in a 1LE).
Here is my list (that I can afford) 1. 2017 1LE SS 2. 2013-15 Cayman S PDK 3. 2011-12 Boxster Spyder PDK 4. 2014-15 z28 5. Lotus Exige S 6 2014-15 Vette 7. GT350TP Let me know what you guys think..... |

Motor Trend just finished their testing for best drivers car and it sounds like the 1LE ran Laguna Seca about as fasted the Z/28.
That being said, if I could get a Z, I would get the Z because Z/28.

The LS7 is also begging for more power to be added to it as well...

2017 1LE.
I think it'll be cheaper to maintain and perform extremely well.

That 5th gen interior though, couldn't do it. It was what kept me away...

If you really track that much, I think a GT350 should be higher on that list. ADM aside, an "R" would be my first choice. In 2017 there is no longer a TP, so you can get a trackable GT350 for mid 50's +/-. The vette would be my second choice.

TP comes with the "base" car now, pretty sure MSRP with destination is like $56,500. And that doesn't include the approximate $1500 gas guzzler tax. So you are looking at $58,000 if you don't add any options and can find a dealer not jacking the price up. That probably will be about $15,000 more then a SS 1LE...no thanks.

How do you figure that? The value tanked as they sat on lots now you think they will maintain? What if the 1LE is just as fast or faster on track and you get loads more tech and features plus you don't have to run carbon ceramics or trofeo R's to get the performance? Consumables on the Z/28 will be astronomically higher on the Z/28 and you run the risk of being outrun by a 6th gen 1LE.

I see z28's on lots all day for low $50,000's. My local dealer has a 15 with 3000 miles for $52,000. I seen one the other day online with 7 miles for $54,000. Another local dealer has a brand new 15 for $76,000 on the lot and has had it forever and will when you can buy them for $25,000 less or more. That is some serious depreciation. So I'm not really sure how s 1LE suffers from worse depreciation than the Z.

I am glad a few of you think the same as I do with depreciation....I got out of the last 1LE just before the bottom dropped out...It had 27k HARD miles on it in the first year, including 1000's of laps at Laguna and it only cost me a couple of grand. I have tracked a new GT350 and a 2016 SS earlier this year, they were both great (except A8 getting hot). If ford does not keep making the GT350, it probably will hold value better than all on the list. I know we are Camaro guys, bet where are the porsche fans?

You also could purchase a new 1LE for 45k+ and in a year it will loose 10-20% of its value, years 2 & 3 who knows but look at history. Problem for the 1LE is while it may perform well, it is still just a SS, the Z/28 is a benchmark vehicle that will be in demand for a long time. These specialty vehicles tend to hold value really well especially if purchased at a reduced price such as leftover or lightly used.
