Can anyone help?

I hope I’m placing this in the correct location. I noticed a hole under the hood that the previous owner might have made. I am wondering if anyone can explain why someone would make this hole. Car is a ‘13 1LE. Thanks

The only thing I can think of is they were running something down the valley under the wipers and wanted something to enter/exit engine bay there.

Also, could it have been mice?

It looks to me like it was chewed.
I would think manmade cuts or tears are all going to have straighter edges or stress discoloration from bending.

What is around the hole? Is it dirty or bubbled?

I am not too sure how or what caused this. I bought the car off the previous owner like this. I was just wondering if anyone knew why it would be there. But most likely everyone is correct and a rodent made its home in there at one time. I was thinking maybe to fish something through or for some type of mod. Thanks everyone

You should probably pull the cabin air filter out and check for rodents or more damage.

Good idea. I’ll most likely do that tomorrow.

Can anyone help me with fixing that hole? I chcecked the filter area nothing in there besides a dirty filter. Now I want to cover that hole though. Any thoughts on what I can buy? Anything close to stock material?

You can buy the stock material to do it The part number is either 12 (92230866) or 16 (92195879) in this diagram. It appears to be 16 but the technical diagram is kinda hard for me to tell where they overlap. Is there an actual hole in the metal behind the material? If so, there shouldn't be one.
