Lifter Suggestions

Looking to upgrade my lifters, but I'm looking for suggestions. I've heard great things about Johnson lifters and know the LS7 that come stock with the LS3 are really good as well. Possible future boost and looking for good quality with practically zero failure reports. Installing large cam TSP stage 3 SC. Still up in the air about changing lifters, but want to get a rough idea of what I'm going to spend for some if I do. Willing to spend the money for good lifters, but obviously prefer to save if anyone knows of something good like Johnson, but less expensive. All input is appreciated and part numbers would be awesome!

Ls3 and ls7 are the same lifter. I would just replace them OEM when you do the cam.

GPI sells cheverolet performance racing lifters that i think I'm gonna try next time i need lifters. Theyre like $100 cheaper than the Johnson lifters and tested up to 8000rpm

Theres more to it then just what lifter. Honestly just about any lifter you buy with your cam kit from a reputable vendor is good stuff. You can set them up many ways. I have a engine builder friend who uses nothing but LS7 lifters set in the middle of their travel for dirt track cars that see 8200 RPM and at the end of the season they are thrown away with the engine refresh. The GM racing lifters are good option. I will say at 63k miles the retainer that holds the plunger in was coming apart on my stock lifters. So they do have a life span once you beat on them. I have Johnson short travels with axle oiling in my motor currently.

You can't have... I want the best... but cheap.

If you want an upgrade, call Johnson and ask for the COPO std travel drop ins. There is a reason they are used in the COPO motors. No they are not cheap. Take advantage of someone else's millions in R&D to find the best.

Standard travel if you desire quiet. Short travel if you need every last tenth of a hp, but at a price of a little noise. Carefully choosing the correct pushrod length will also help with less noise/hp/wear.

The LS7 style lifters have worked great for us and are on most of our builds.

If I did another cam it would be a low lash solid with Jesel Rockers.

I would go with Melling. They make very good lifters.
