Anyone Care For A Z/36?!

With all the performance concentration placed on V8-engined SS and ZL1 versions (and a possible Z/28?), my thoughts are the V6 market has been all but abandoned...

The V6 versions are important for CAFE

The V6 versions are le$$ expen$ive

The V6 versions are more modestly insured

The V6 versions could be a LOT of "bang for the buck"

So let's build one...and we'll call it the Z/36

* Base 1LS Model 1EE37
* LFX 3.6 V6, 323 hp.
* MN6, 6-speed manual
* FE4 Suspension
* SS Brembo Front Disc Brakes
* ZL1 20" Forged Wheels
* Summer-only "sticky" Tires
* GMPP CAI
* GMPP Stainless Cat-back
* ZL1 Splitter/Spoiler
* 350 hp. (a "magic" Camaro number!)
* 3750 lb. Curb Weight
* 13.90s in the 1/4 (compare that to '60s musclecars!)
* Surprizing road course times...
* Fun to DRIVE!
* Fun to PAY FOR!
* Fun to maintain!

OK, boys and girls, "have at it!"

What do YOU think?!

The all-new Z/36 for only $29,995

I Like everything but the name. They really should offer some kind of performance upgrade package for the V-6. Our Z28 withdrawals have reduced us to considering V-6 options. That's ok, as long as it doesn't replace Z28.

as long as its a z/xx i dont care. and apparently nissan has been using the z/33 an z/34 names on the 350 and 370 z. a z/xx v6 camaro is defiantly in order.

perhaps a factory turbo option with the LFX??????

Z/36 is a reference to its metric engine displacement.

A turbo or two, in the current version, would have you back up to 1SS Curb Weight, essentially...with equivalent LS3 power in OEM tune (425 hp ala "Leno")...not a lighter-on-its-feet result.

I think a turbo'd V6 in the Gen-6 is a distinct possibility. Lighter car, better result.

Some background:

In 1992, two friends and I took an off-the-showroom-floor '92 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (Twin Cam 3.4, AT, no GTP cladding-doodads-weight), installed GTP 16 X 8" wheels with 4-P255/50ZR16 Potenzas, dialed in all the negative camber we could, added Hawk pads, and struck out for the '92 One Lap of America. 4416 miles later, we finished 2nd in Class, 19th Overall, against a very eclectic field of fast cars...in a dealership DEMO.

Don't underestimate the capabilities of W-cars with 3.4s, at least when new "back in the day"...

That result cemented a relationship with Pontiac Racing that lasted for a dozen years...

Celebrity? I'm pretty sure the Z34 was a Lumina...

Z26 - Chevy Beretta
Z28 - Camaro
Z34 - Chevy Lumina
Z71 - Silverado

Hmm, I think it would be cool. But the Z(whatever) should definitely have a lot more to offer than a regular V6. A suspension package would be a must. It would be great if they could make that thing an agile streetfighter. A turbo would also be a nice addition making the car even better.

Wasn't there a Z85 somewhere in the mix as well?

correct, but the Z71 designation is just GMs offroad package. It is also on other models besides the silverado
