Pretty good advice ^^above.
Will also add since I lived in KS just don't street race. In your reasearch check out the vendor page list and the feedback thread on reviews.

Congrats on your car and I will second the comment about locking up your cell phone while you are driving. Don't answer it or make calls. Never, I say again, never text while driving. Distracted driving is the number one killer of teen drivers. Do not street race. Go to Heartland Park to get your Ya Ya's out.

Since you already blacked out the tail lights, get some ghosted side marker lights. Oracle makes a set and will paint match.

First thing I would do is restore the tail lights back to stock condition. The worst thing for a young driver (or any driver) is to have tail lights that are blacked out. Good way to increase your chances in getting rear ended.

At least you got a V8, great place to start.

A 17 year old with a V8.
The absolute best "mod" you can get is the driver mod. All those good looks wont do you any good if the car is upside down. Buy tires, go to track or somewhere where you cant crash and try to explore the limits of the car. Take a turn with more pedal than you've used before, figure out braking distance, push the car and be familiar with how it reacts. A recent friend of mine with a brand new v8 mustang (purchased a few months ago) recently totaled it into a tree line because it was his first car with power and took turns too fast. Once you aren't afraid of the car's power, go wild with cosmetics or power upgrades. I'd focus on suspension/tires but to each his own. |

Congratulations on the new ride. A lot of great suggestions & advice has already been provided on things to do with the car, one of the best is getting to know you vehicle. Here are just a couple more relatively inexpensive things you can do:
- Ambient interior lighting kit (foot well, map light) - Black out your 'SS' badges (since you already blacked out the bowties)

Thank you to all for the suggestions! Great advise from all. For some a car is a car but this car is like my child at 17. I do most of the things you guys have suggested already. In the town I try to drive my safest. Only been to the track once and got to make 3 passes so haven't really gotten to explore the cars potential to much. But I live in a small town and going fast isn't the biggest deal for me.
Thanks again to all for the suggestions and amazing support! |

Black out the bowties, cheap and easy

First, congratulations. You have a great and trusting father. Think long and hard about modifying your car. It's really a cool car as it is. You might just enjoy the reliability of a modern car and its performance as is. Spend your time and money with your friends and family and study. Someday that car might be setting in your garage, 30 or 40 years from now. It'd be a lot nicer if it were all original. Modified old cars are a dime a dozen.

0As stated.....i dont care what you think or believe your the best mod for that car. I work with enough knuckleheads in their 20s that are idiots behind the wheel. Because at 17 you have zero wiggle room for tickets and accidents. My daughter just turned 19 and has been a great driver for 3 years now so as long as you use you head you will be fine. Your a heat score to start with so in reality a good sounding catback is rrally all you need......a few cosmetics are all you need.

OP I see your car is an Auto so a tune for the Engine & trans is a great upgrade and not that expensive to do. It would shut off the AFM as well. The L99 engine really amps up with a tune...
As for cosmetic mods please keep them tasteful. I've seen some appearance mods on here that look absolutely great and some that look like they were done by whores for whores LOL. I think your car looks great just the way it is but that is only my opinion of course Last edited by qcman; 11-22-2017 at 10:35 AM. |
