Lifter Question

I know everyone says Johnson or Morel and they are on the table, but I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between the two GM performance lifters below.

Chevrolet Performance 12499225

I think this is what some call the Cadillac racing lifter that is supposed to be good to 8000 RPM.
Chevrolet Performance 88958689

I have the CHE trunion upgrade and BTR 660 springs. Going to a 78/80 turbo hoping to free up some top end horse power and while I was going over the original build paperwork I realized I had OE replacement lifters that might not appreciate 7000 RPM.

2011 Vert - 416/w 230/236 .612/.602 115lsa, 1LE suspension w/32mm rear bar. Z28 diff. ZL1 brakes.

Well apparently the reason the Cadillac lifters are good for high rpms is they are lighter, but noisier. The consensus seems to be to use the LS7 lifter unless you are running high rpm, but even the guys with Cadillac lifters that run high RPM say they wish they had gone Johnson or Morel.

I would like to know that too, at least for the LS ones.

I think copo uses a Johnson lifter, I’m sure someone on here will correct me if I’m wrong?

I just went from the gm performance lifters to the gm performance racing version and all I can say is that the racing version is way quieter in my engine then the performance ones were. I always had a ticking that was getting louder and louder as time went by and decided to give the racing version a try and I'm glad that I did. They are quieter at idle and at cruising speed but can still hear a faint tick but I think that kinda normal for a cammed ls enigne. I would definitely recommend them. I think that the gm performance ones were getting close to their limit because I was pushing it to 6700 rpm and they didn't like that because their only good to 7k. And yes I do believe that the copo's use johnson.

Johnson lifters are in the COPOs. I run the same ones in my 416. Pay close attention to preload requirements when swapping styles and manufacturer of lifters because it often changes. The short travel lifters like I run are very specific.

Thanks guys, I'm going to have them swapped by the machine shop while they do the 5&7 cylinders. Also fixing a couple leaks while its out.

I've never been real good at following detailed processes. I have a tendency to miss something and have to go back and do it over, very frustrating. I have no problem pulling an engine, but for the engine work I use a good shop.

Ls3/7 are the same lifter. The GM performance kit of 16 lifters ending in part number 9225 is just 16 ls3/7 lifters. The GM racing lifters are true performance oriented and look like Johnson 2110. Check the recommended preload on any lifter set you get.

The recommended preload on the gm performance racing lifters is the same as the regular performance lifters that's why I really went with them over the Johnson lifters because on the Johnsons the lifters use like a .025 shorter pushrod or something like that but you really have to measure them to find out what you need and I didn't feel like getting into all that.

If the LS3/LS7 lifter is the same as the 12499225, then what are the Delphi LS7 lifters that cost half as much?

Because they're not labeled GM. Delphi is an OEM supplier.
