Metal Caps on Valve Steams

When I got my BFG Comp 2 A/S installed by Discount tire, they seemed to think that I should use the black plastic valve stem caps that they provide and not the metal ones that came om my car originally. Why do you suppose that is?

Cheap metal caps can corrode and become impossible to remove.
Since we have TPMS they are rarely removed to check the pressure.

Put a drop of oil or dab of light grease on the threads if you are concerned.

Do you have a picture of the ZL1 caps? I've never heard of them. Where can you get them?

I am going to throw another thought out there. I got my 1LE back from the local Costco tire shop with brand new Michelins installed. All good, except later noticed my factory metal valve stem caps had been replaced with plastic ones. I immediately returned to the shop and the tech had all four of them stashed in his toolbox. These guys change tires for a living. They know the good stuff from the cheap stuff. Your factory 1LE metal valve stem caps are not cheap. Go down and order one and you will see. They are a higher quality than any I've seen and tire techs know it. Watch your valve stem caps guys, people want them.....
