I had a couple high 11 second passes on the stock tires....... but that was with around 750 whp. I think it is harder to race it on stock tires with more power. My car was lighting them up in third gear and as soon as the tires blew out the pass was in the 12's. I think I made over 50 passes on stock tires with over 750 whp just to get a couple in the 11's. To me stock tires are an exercise in restraint and wasted effort, why not just get drag radials and stand on it.

Now I am trying to find out where the Bondurant strip is. I think it's the old Firebird drag strip in AZ now called Wild Horse Pass. So I also guess 5/4/2012 is the day of the test when the video and press release were published. So if I plug that run into a DA calculator: DA is 3127 @ 3:51 PM. The M6 11.96-second ET at 117 mph gives us - Corrected 0 DA 1/4 ET: 11.739 @ 119.172 MPH Now of courseChevy is not saying the ZL1 ran that time, but at sea level DA that time should be close to possible. Now at Atco in the spring and fall we see DAs well below sea level. So according to my Internet racing calculations an 11 sec ET in a M6 ZL1 should be doable in mine shaft air. LOL. Given we can't find anyone that has done this it makes me wonder.... |

You can probably hit a high 11 at ATCO with those coal mine-like DA's you see in the cooler weather provided you get decent traction.

Right. I do not underestimate track prep. I could not make out the time slips in the video to get the 60'. They were too blurry even blown up. I do know from my experience good 60's are tough on the 285 Goodyears. So here is an opinion question, If I swap out the Goodyears for Michelin Pilots, not a bad idea if you do not track, am I still stock? I would think so. I think with a little practice I could get below a 2.0 with them. The ZL1 clutch has a nice feel. My last clutch was a Street Slayer Carbon and it was very strong. But it was either engaged or not. Bad for 60's.

how many days has this thread been up and still not 1 11 second time slip stock from the real world?
I think that kind of answers the question on how easy it is ha ha. I like PSS better than the goodyears but I am not sure if it will get you 11's. this car is bi-polar in the 1/4 mile it just plain is not good on DOT rubber then you add some traction IE DR and light bolt on's and it can start knocking on low 11's high 10's real easy.

I just want to have some fun this fall trying to get there stock. I know it will not be easy. I have seen a number of stock ZL1s at Atco running mid 12s with disappointed owners. If I get too frustrated I will bolt on the DRs. I think because of where I live I at least have a chance living between Atco and Cecil. I think Cecil is down hill. Now if it would just stop raining..... |

Prior to modding, I personally ran a best of 11.99@118.77 bone stock. I did this 2 years ago. I never did post it up though. I still have the time slip. Looking at the fast list, I am the the one that ran the time on the bone stock list with the 12.0 but some reason, I forgot to post in there that I did get it into the 11's finally...whoops.
So to answer the OP question, yes, with patience and practice on a cool day with a good DA, you can get it in the 11's with a 6 speed. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5H...ew?usp=sharing

I have done work to the car now so no more stock records for me. Now I'm going after the fast list with mods. Haha! Just get out there and practice, practice, practice! Cecil is the best track in the area for fast times. A good cool, crisp fall night is ideal with a negative DA is the best!

Here is my second pass in a ZL1 bone stock with 350 miles 12.02 117.5 in not great weather. I did run 11s on the next outing but no camera.

Also were you in PTM 5? You launched? Do you remember your 60'? It looked pretty good. Sorry for all the questions. Exciting run. So at least 3 stock M6 ZL1s have recorded 11s. |

Funny, after all of my talk about an 11 second run in a stock ZL1 M6 all I could do was 12.699@113.85. I got 4 runs in which is low for Atco and the DA was -44.
I have a long way to go. My 60's were all 2.1n except 1 but most of my lights were good @ .0nn. I have to be happy with that. There was another more experienced M6 ZL1 driver there with stock tires and a Rotofab CAI who was running 12.5s. All of my runs were faster than the one before, but when you start out at 13.3 (LOL) that is no big deal. I still love this car, but respect for those low 12, 11 sec ZL1 M6 drivers. I should be able to get 2.0 60's and my mph is a little low. But I will still need alot of help from DA to get even close to a low 12. |
