AGM for the win by a far margin. lol I made the dealership trade the black for an agm when I bought mine and I am glad I did. The AGM is sort of like a chameleon. It can change colors with what is around it and in different light.

So like I said, I think the ashen gray can look amazing with just a few visual mods. Of course, that's just my opinion.
I would love to see a pic of your buddy’s car. Sounds exactly like what I want.

Ashen Gray Metallic and couldn't be happier. I had several black cars in the past but never dark gray so it made my decision a little easier.

Just be aware if you go gray it will look black in the shade, I had more than one person say "I thought you said it was gray?". Also, it will show water spots like a black car, I'm constantly cleaning mine.

Good luck, either way it's an awesome car!
I have a Magna Steel Metallic Equinox daily and I find the Victory Red paint on my ZL1 to be more of a pain in the butt than the Grey hue on the Equinox....

The non-metallic Victory Red paint looks fine out in the sun, but my god... put it under shop lights and you can see every imperfection.

I'm taking care of that little by little as I paint correct it this winter, but I will never buy a car without metallic in the paint again. Metallic tends to hide blemishes better.

Please note, I'm extremely anal with my cars, so most of the imperfections I speak of no one other than me would ever notice, lol.

The solution is quite simple: get a black ZL1 and an AGM Z/28. Sometimes I even amaZe myself.

I'm not really casting a vote one way or the other, but one distinguishing factor with black; IMO it is one of the best colors that will take to polishing and wax. If you have a near perfect black car, and you detail it with a high quality wax, look out. It will have the best reflectivity IMO of all of the colors.

The downside is that black attracts dust, bird bombs, and you will easily see any chip, scratch or dent.

The good thing with black is that it seems to blend easily when you do auto body repair.
