Go with Tipman-
They have been in the business since it started and are the only company left that can boast that. They are simple and reliable.

Definitely Tippman if you are playing woodsball. If it speedball then you want something with a high rate of fire.
Also, be a team player and don't be afraid of getting shot. Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk

Also, check craigslist for used guns. Buying new equipment is a waste of money if you end up not playing enough. Do not buy padding, you will look dumb. Invest in a good mask with an anti fog lense.

Yea I'm looking at a mask right now. Deciding between a few. JT Proflex looks to be like the one I might go with. I plan on buying only the mask new. Everything else I have no problem buying used.

Quick tip on buying a mask, go to a local paintball shop and try some on before you buy online. A lot of masks can run small.

Paintball is fun, yet expensive. I've played on a few teams over the years. (Havn't played in like 5-6 years. I have had all types of guns inc Angel 05 speed, Angel G7, Angel G7 fly, Angel A1 Miami Rage team gun, Angel A1 Fly, Dye DM4, Dye Dm5, Dye DM6, Dye DM7, Tippman A-5 (for woodsball), 98 custom, a few smart parts guns (shocker impulse ect) lots of other random companys and ofcorse my fair share of ego's. I think ive had like 5-6 of them. The best 2 are the dye's and the ego's. Honestly if I was just starting out now, I would find a good used ego or DM. You can find a great one that someone did the board or grip on for like 300-400 probs and that is a REALLY solid gun. Ill link a few for you in a minute.
http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=4062338 <-- really good gun for the money. http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=4062688 <-- Used to be around 2k back in the day, still pretty decent lol http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=4059366 <-- really good price. I would check out that site, lots of good info on there. Let me know your price range and i'll try and find you something that'll work well for years. I'm hoping the fact that I don't plan to compete keeps costs reasonable. Luckily, the local paintball field is a small business so if you go consistently the owner lets you in for free just to get more people and have fun. I'm mostly looking for a gun that is easy to maintain and won't break down on me all the time. Doesn't have to be the best of the best but I'm hoping to buy one gun and be done with it. This is probably what I'll do as a hobby during the summer. Don't want to be upgrading all the time. So something reliable and that shoots well. Hoping to keep it between 150-350. If I have to stretch it to 400 for something great I will but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Also, any recommendations on masks, hoppers and tanks?

I'd say go with a Tippmann X7 Phenom. Lots of options for it, built in reliable feed system, and Tippmanns warranty to keep you in the game. I'm currently running a magfed Milsig Paradigm Pro but I would recomend newer players run hoppers until you can get a feel for the game. Have fun though and welcome to one of the coolest sports in the world

Considering you're looking at Planet Eclipse, don't even consider Tippmann. Seriously. Heavy, slow, inefficient, and a lot of little mechanical pieces you might lose every time you open it up to clean.
Before anyone says anything, I've had one 98 Custom and 4 A5's. Then I graduated to speedball and realized "those" guns are the best options in the woods AND air ball fields. All that aside, I have an ETek 2 w/ Star Frame (05 Ego Frame and chip), a recently hydro'd Custom Products 68/4500 tank, and Empire Prophecy loader... for sale plus a Valken jersey and NXE 4+5 pack. Empire pants too, but they're a size large and I like them too much too sell haha. |

I have a buddy who will sell me his dangerous power g3 (I think it's a g3, could be a g4) but I think I'd rather jump on something like an etek. I have definitely heard to stay away from tippman. After going for my first time I too decided on a speedball gun after getting a woodball gun as a loan from the field and trying out my buddies g3. The woodball guns are cool cuz they look real but the speedball guns are just so much lighter

Gloves-
get some gloves with padding or armor on the knuckles and fingers. I started in paintball in 1989, I have been hit everywhere, and it always used to piss me off getting shot in the knuckles.
