Returning lease with different brand tires...

Has anyone leased a Camaro and returned it with different branded tires than originally came on it?

Are you automatically on the hook to pay for new Pirelli tires?

I am replacing the Pirelli's with General AS 03's so it is usable in the winter and hate the thought of storing the originals for 3 years (or paying to have them switched in the summers) but the dealership indicated that the exact same brand of tires would have to be on the car when returned.

Not that dealerships can't be trusted.....but is this true? My lease is through Ally if it matters.

I do lease returns for my dealership and Ally is very lenient on everything with returns. I have never had them mention tires (although I dont work for a Chevy dealer). I would still think that it would be the same case. Your dealer most likely told you that so they can buy the car out and not have it returned to ally so they're looking out for themselves. I can contact my dealer services rep for Ally if you want and ask... just send me a Private message if you want me to.

I've leased 4 cars so far and have never heard of this. Sounds like a stupid dealer comment. I had a Ford lease return and the guy who came out to inspect and take away the car was pretty thorough. I had 3 different tire brands and models...I doubt he noticed.

Typically as long as they are sized correctly, and meet the proper speed/load/whatever other specifications there are you should be fine.

Well technically, the G-Max AS-03 tires don't have the exact same ratings (168 mph vs 186 mph, AA traction vs A) so I guess if they wanted to be picky about it then they could (although, to me anyways, I would make the trade for an all weather tire with good performance and longer life any day).

I can understand their point if you're swapping out summer tires (Prelli's) with all-season (General's).

But if the tire ratings are the same, they shouldn't have an issue with it. Their goal is to be able to sell it. Having new, different tires on is better than having older, same brand tires that they have to replace.

In 20+ years of leasing they looked at tread depth and walked away. This goes for BMW, Ford, Chrysler(Jeep), and GM.

You've got to maintain the car. I don't know of any lease agreement that specifies what brand of any wearable part must be used for various maintenance, including tire replacement.

agreed with merlin803, I would probably prefer all season tires, and the dealer could at least test drive the damn thing with confidence in the winter months, good idea. Not to mention there new as well.

If leased thru Ally, you should have received a return kit from them, which has a card for verifying if your liable for damages beyond usual wear n tear. This card has the tire tread depth guide, and a series of gauge holes for checking the interior for rips or stains. And other set of gauge holes for windshield chips or body dings

They don't care on brand of tires.
