LS3 and L99 engine dyno test
http://www.**************************-...l#post13882913
Stock on engine dyno with headers and no accessories. Nearly 500hp for the LS3...must take a lot of hp to get this pig moving lol. |

don't add to the fuel.
the SS is a great car. GM did leave some things for us to do. everyone is thinking power...we need to address the suspenion. Once thats done....even minimal power gains will result in et's worthy of the SS name. I know this . i went down in hp and tq ( lowered my psi by 1.5) and added key suspension peices. Since i've done that. My SS (L99) has been good to me. the SS is not a pig.....it needs to be finalized. GM was in the mist of going down when realeased. take a bone stock SS powertrain and add the proper suspension piece and watch the et drop.

So according to the graph the L99 and the LS3 are underrated from the factory? Way underated!
Don't many tuners get lower base numbers? Numbers that confirm Chevy's factory ratings? |

What napper said. Suspension upgrades yield great driving increases. A good tuner will be able to pick up some added HP, usually more than any bolt on, GM did leave some on the table but not as much as in the past. The Camaro is an awesome car, if you plan on modifying the car I would start with the foundation (suspension) then you have a good starting platform to build upon. Just my .02

As far as being underated I know the LS1's were by about 35hp,didn't want to piss off the corvette guys. And as the car breaks in we would get 10-15 more rwhp and .2+ 2 mph faster. I am wondering if my v6 didn't get more hp after breaking in also as I see alot of new and seasoned dyno numbers and must be getting more broken in which would make sense. |

Those were engine dynos with no accessories I believe. Thats not how they are rated from the factory.
So you have 500 minus 30ish for the headers and cai and you have about 470....minus spinning stock accessories such as power steering, water pump, a/c, alternator, belt tensioner and you are probably only a few hp off that 426 rating. |

As far as the car being a pig...I meant this as the car is heavy...nothing more. I love the car obviously...I bought one. But 3800+ pounds for a sports car is a bit portly. For those talking about under rating.....no it is not. This was with no accessories, a cold air intake and dyno headers. It is interesting that it is showing a 30hp difference form the L99. Due to the + or - 1% variance allowed by SAE I am sure the LS3 is making 430hp just like it is in the vette...thus a 30hp difference from the L99. |

Up to 4500 rpms, the LS3 and L99 make basically the same HP. The LS3 shines from 4500 - 6500 rpms.

The basic HP difference is the automatic engine L99 have the feature of turning off 4 cylinders when the crruise control is on, this changes the valve system, that's were the 26hp differece comes in.

And its not just that...the L99 is lower compression, has a smaller cam and has a lower RPM fuel cut off (because of the smaller cam) |

The HP difference comes from the l99 having a lower compression ratio due to uisng notched pistons, and running a different cam. It has zero to due with AFM...which has nothing to due with cruise control. |
