That sucks! The G. M. was one of my favorite daily drivers. I put 200,000 on my 'ole '96 with no problems to speak of. Then, gave it to my Mom to drive for a few more years. Talk about getting your money's worth.
Mine had the HD parts like the police Crown Vic's., decent gas mileage, comfort and room to get laid in the back seat. Let's see you do that in a Camaro!

OK it's no hot rod, but for getting you there in comfort.... this was a great reliable car. Sad to see it put to rest.

They really ripped the old Grand Marquis a new one. This review may help the Grand Marquis go on record as one of the worst cars ever.

I love how they describe the seats as dentist couches with the "squishy padding of a freshly baked Twinkie."

"It's the automotive equivalent of a food coma."

"The engine sort of lazily builds revs when the accelerator is slammed to the floor and then gives out an almost audible sigh of relief when the four-speed automatic transmission makes one of its mushy shifts."

Actually these were pretty damn good cars that you could run and run and run. Yeah it wasn't fancy but it worked for grandpa!

Unhappy

my step grandfather would buy like a brand new Marquis ever few years like clockwork. I think he personally kept the local Lincoln Mercury dealer in town open that much longer (back when it was owned by the same family, it has since been bought out by the local company that owns all the ford/mazda/kia/GM ones). when he passed away in like 2001/2002 his 99 Marquis LS sedan which only had 14K miles on it never rolled down the back windows, never used the A/C, never used the stereo, and never used the cruise control . His son got it in the will and traded it in for a new DTS Caddy, I liked that old GM :(.

All around is a pretty broad term. In terms of durability and serviceability you are well and truly witnessing the end of an automotive era with the reality being that absolutely no other car built today can possibly hope to match these things in either regard. I assure you police officers will be crying for many years to come over the loss of the attributes cars like this brought to the table, and more than a few civilians will miss them for those same reasons and more.

The last of the large 70s era gunboats have finally been put to rest. Of course there is a car ready to take its place. I think its called...Impala. It may not date back to the Carter years, but I think it's still old enough to become the US car industry's official relic.

I admit it is a little sad though. For good or bad, the Grand Marquis was truly the last of its kind. There will certainly never be another car like it. There had to have been something good about it that kept it alive all these years. Right?

I bought a new GM in 2000. Drove it until I got the Camaro last year.
175,000 miles and averaged 23 mpg's. Didn't spend a dime on it other than tires, brakes and oil changes. Gave it to my son when I bought the Camaro, it now has 190,000 miles on it, the only money spent was a new fuel pump. My wife called it my old man's car, but it was comfortable and a great car, and still going strong.
