Those dampeners cause a problem with aftermarket - less than 20 in. - wheels (winter wheels). I bought a set of wheels/tires for winter from Tire Rack, and they fit fine. Other people are having problems with the same size BECAUSE of the revised pads with the dampener weights.
So, if you have those, don't plan on putting 18 in. winter tires on your car. They'll never fit.

A stock SS has 20" wheels with the Brembo Brakes.

Hopefully when I get mine in June there won't be anything on the brakes!

Yeah, I have number fifty five thousand and something and my brakes squeal at times to make me want to sink low in my seat and hide my face. I keep telling my wife it's part of the retro thing going on. I keep thinking about replacing the pads with some high end ceramics, but I'm not so sure that's going to fix the problem. I would think my SS would already have high end ceramics on it, but the crazy amount of brake dust that I have shouldn't be there with good ceramics. Nothing like pulling up to stops next to people in this bad boy just squealing like a bucket. Always something to deal with!

squealing pads?
remove pads, apply synthetic brake grease, reinsert pads, done I do see that these are part of the new pad assemblies from the factory, so changing to any other available pad will likely NOT have these added weights. |

What I don't get is that there are other high performance cars with Brembo
brakes and they don't have anything like this added so what is the real truth is what I'm thinking |

The real truth is that it is a plot by a secret organization to listen to your wheels to find new members for its diabolical plot. There—are you happy?

Looks like they are permanently attached caliper harmonic dampeners. I'll be making sure I get these, over the wheel weights.
Best thing they could do, short of redisigning the caliper. Maybe they'll do that as time permits. |

I'm with JICPerformance...they appear to be attached to the back plate of the pads, not the calipers. Looks like GM just changed the pads being provided on the Camaro. Here's an interesting forum discussion on the weights and brake squeal in general from Porsche owners. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...pic=28449&st=0
