Base Model Summary....

I'm new if that says anything. I've been reading lots of threads in here and it's just making me more and more excited but for a 23 year old, my reading comprehension skills kinda suck lol. But anyway, let me get this straight. For the base model Camaro...they're suggesting that the V6 will be Direct Inject pumping out close to 300HP and aimed at about $20k in order to attract the younger folks who can't afford the bigger bang for the buck....is that about right?? If that's so....then screw the Turbo Charged Cobalt! haha. I can't drive stick yet anyway. :(

yes, thats about right. we've got spy shots of the v-6 motor already. tho there is still some speculation that there might be 2 different v-6 options and a single v-8 option till production numbers climb. and it will be marketed to compete with the mustang. basically, go to fords website and build yourself a v-6 mustang and add about 2-3k to the price and that is about where you will see prices for the v-6 camaro. and yes, screw the t/c cobalt.

lol cool advice. I'm excited about the V6 model mainly because I just want a vehicle when I get out college that has plenty of talk to back up it's walk without breaking my bank too hard. For $23k, that's not too bad at all considering the T/C Cobalt is supposed to be rated around that price anyway, and the V6 Model will COME with an Automatic transmission.....I just wish GM would invest their time and technology with Shiftronic. That is SUCH a fun feature on Mazda's!

Don't be surprised if you see an "Ecotec" 4banger under the hood of the 5thgen sooner than later.

I suggest you try to learn somehow. Know anyone who owns a stick? Ask them to teach you (if they are willing to let someone without experience drive their car). Just start off in a vacant parking lot going slow before you go on the street, and then on to hills.

I was lucky my Dad had a 1989 Honda Accord and he let me try driving stick when I was 14. I've been driving a stick ever since and will NEVER buy a car with an automatic.

I encourage everyone to at least try to learn how to drive stick. A car like the Camaro will be so much more enjoyable, plus, if you can drive stick you can drive anything. If you can't drive stick, you can only drive automatics.

I agree with above, manuel trans is so much more fun day to day than automatics! The fun factor alone is worth the learning.

I've had 3 chances to learn to drive stick and 3 chances got "effed" over. The first attempt to teach me was done on a hill.....not the greatest spot for learners. The second time was in a Golf. Of course VW's gear layout is different so when I was trying to shift into 2nd I was accidentally going into 3rd and eventually stalling then I was on the highway shortly after that for and hour and half so it wasn't much of a challenge to be in 5th the whole time. The 3rd attempt and most recent was in my friend's Mazda Protege' Turbo....the stock shiftnob was from Sparko....no gear layout printed on top....and I was told the move the car up in his dad's farm house alone....no help...I eventually figured out I was in 2nd gear the whole time after stalling out 10 times in a row.

I know nobody's know for sure but what do you think.
Will the V6 around 22-23K be only offered in automatic?

That would be even sweeter not having to add another 1K for the transmisson cause i dont want a stick

Do a search: it's been confirmed the V6 will be offered with a manual transmission, and the automatic will most likely be an option.

It has been? I'd like to see that.
We know that it will come with a manual...but I don't think we know if it will be standard equipment or not..

Yeah. Never heard anyone say it would be standard equip as a manual. Probably will be w/ an auto as a $1k option.

I was just going by the fact that the manual is standard in the CTS with the automatic a $1500 option. I know the stick was an option on the GTO and I think it still is on the Corvette, but the CTS drivetrain is a similar setup to what will be in the Camaro, so I just used a little deductive reasoning to come to my conclusion.

Oh, I agree that a manual will probably be standard. It's just the way it was said,
