Subscribed for sure! I wonder if you could accomplish this with a hand-laid CF mold looking like the roof in the concept car? You'd have to cut the entirety of the headliner out, but it would allow more control over the layout and support structure.
Will you be frosting the acrylic rods or leaving them clear? The frosting would allow you to add LEDs along the run of acrylic - giving more light output. Anywho, just tossing thoughts out there. Really excited to see how you'll do it, and what you learn from the process. |

Thanks i got the call from the LED supplier that the ones i wanted are out of stock so i got some small ones and will see how it looks.
I did not want to frost the acrylic rod i think in the concept it was clear, so i think the way to do it is like the ABL only use a non color LED (so white) so i was thinking how do you hide the LED's, Here is what i think in the last 1" of the rod i want to make it smaller on the front, that way it will be under the head liner, and drill the right size hole to fit the LED's inside the rod, now that will but the light in the rod and we need a way to reflect the light back in the cab. We will see in a week or more. |

Looks cool, are you going to have them come on with the interior lights or a switch?

why don't you find a way to divide the optical rod in two? So it is flat on one side and curved on the other...then it would fit better in the headliner and allow you to put a reflective film on the other side so the light would shine into the cabin instead of being absorbed into the headliner... then two led's (white ones) could be drilled into either end of the rod ( i feel the light would be more uniform that way)
Just a thought |

Ground the ends down to the size i want and drilled a hole for 1 5mm LED to see how it looks and then i have some 1 watt LED's but in red only will see if it looks good later.

Anyway to make these bands/strips of light behave the same way the dome light does and work off that same switch? Like when you open the door they will slowly turn on and the opposite when you close the door?
