The 6th Gen 1LE will not be slow. Everyone knows that now. But they went away from the muscle car aesthetics when they redesigned it. Why they insist on making ass ends uglier and uglier is beyond me. But when I see a 5th gen, I see a modern classic. It needs nothing to gain respect and admiration from car guys everywhere. From a driving aspect, you may wait to reserve judgement as hardly anyone other GM engineers has test driven the new 1LE.

The Gen 6 is better in every way except price, back seat space, and front passenger legroom. If those aren't deal breakers then you have your answer. Don't worry about looks... Anytime a new generation car is revealed the forums for the previous generation light up with comments about how ugly it is...

The 6th gen is better dynamically.
The 5th gen is better aesthetically. Which is more important to you?

I'll more than likely get a 6th gen once I can test drive one. I actually like the looks better.

Looks are subjective. You like what you like. It'd be dull if everyone thought the same thing looked good. I mean, there's a buddy of mine that thinks the Challenger is the prettiest car made today. Some people, you know?
I bought a fifth gen, in April, knowing that the 6th would be with us toward the end of the year, having seen some spy shots of it, heard the rumors of better performance, etc. I knew the 6th gen would be better from a numbers perspective. I suspected that there would be more ECU control of the more dynamic aspects of the car, if for no other reason than because the latest generation Corvettes and ATS-V's were case studies in what the performance engineers were focusing on. It would be a more sophisticated vehicle, lighter, etc. I had no idea of what it would look like outside of spy shots. As it turns out, I rather like the 6th gen's looks. Not as much as I do the 5th's, but I'm one of the exceptions that prefer the '14's and 15's over the earlier years of the 5th. I suspected that each trim level would be more expensive, but I had no idea of the actual numbers. I bought the 5th gen because I knew I liked it, a bunch. As it sat, that car was the one I wanted. I can't point to anything in particular and say, that's why, I just knew, looking at it, driving it, I wanted this car. Ten months and 18,000 miles into that decision, I couldn't be happier with it. The car has added enough enjoyment to every day since that having waited six or so months, most of it beautiful weather, would have been... worse. Then again, I bought this car, as I have the last several, with the idea of tweaking it as I go along, making it more what I wanted. Should, in the process of driving the wheels off it, I find myself in a position of making it the hobby vehicle I drag along with me through the next twenty or thirty years, that'd be pretty cool too. No matter what decision you make, given enough time, the manufacturer will come up with a "better" version of it, one with more power, more grip, more... something. That's a given. So, I just get as close to what I want as can be arranged, then bring it the rest of the way there, life permitting. As other's have said, 5th gen 1LE with the price differential between it and the 6th gen, dumped into it would probably be pretty close to a 6th gen 1LE. The only way to know for sure is to wait and see how the 6th gen tests. Waiting and then deciding is easily the most rational decision. Only you can decide if it's the most gratifying. |

I cannot speak for you or anyone else of course, but I really like my '14 1LE. It's a mighty fine car. For example, I personally like my "old school" gauges on the counsel. But's that's just aesthetics. But I look at that car and it's really sweet. There will always be something newer, faster, perhaps nicer looking, in some people's eyes. Someone said above that if everything was the same, that wouldn't be good either. The 6Gen is built on a good platform. Has a great motor and so on. You have to buy what you like, or what moves you, and live with it. If I didn't like my '14, I'd sell it and get a newer one even if it's more expensive. I think you already know what you want. Good luck and enjoy whatever you drive.

I'd buy the 6th gen, but for what I think the price is, I'd rather have a C7 Z51.

Agreed. Price point is too close to a vette to not realistically consider it. I think most will go for the vette at that point especially non car guys. I think the gen 6 will do well in the used market when the sticker shock is not so bad. I think it's just tough for the general population to accept mid 40k ss camaros. Even tho it is a performance bargain, seems like ppl shop for status more often than not.

I'm only 5'11" so I should be fine with the headroom. No Sunroof for me though as I want less weight and more room for my helmet.

While I respect the hell out of the Vette, I actually like the looks of both the 5th and 6th Gen Camaros better. Now the Z06 is an entirely different matter but I can not afford one of those. |
