Currently I drive a 2016 Chevy SS with intake, long tubes, ported throttle body and tune. The custom dyno tune for that was $550.

New super charger 6k
Tuning 1k
Labor ?
So far at 7k for new SC and lots of power vs 2k and good power.
The new SC I’m sure will require more fuel to make the big power so may have to add a few k to that number if desired.

That seems really really high for only porting and a larger TB with CAI. I'm not completely convinced here.

Katech Performance is offering the same kind of port job like Kong Performance at a much lower price on their web site.

I do my own tuning, so no extra costs for me. But you were comparing this to bolting on an aftermarket blower. Most of those systems require custom tuning, so that’s not really a factor. It’ll cost me $1300 for a ported blower/snout and pulley. Maybe add $100 for shipping. Big difference vs a $5700 blower kit.

Interesting little video.

I already looked into upgrading my ZL1, and it was $750 for the dyno time for tuning, if that number helps anyone.

Going off the numbers from this video plus my own research(napkin math):
Ported snout + throttlebody + CAI + 2.3 pulley = Just over 800 crank HP. Math seem right(ish?).Total cost in parts + some labor, we're looking at about 3500 buck? Doesn't seem too bad for that kind of gain.

I’ll let people who tune vehicles for living tune my car. I still don’t get how you can say $1300?

There’s no freaking way that you’re going to get that off your car ported back on your car and tuned for 1300.

$6,000 whipple that includes tuning sounds ideal.

From what I can find, that $5900 doesn't include a tune. That is an extra $600. So $6500 for a fairly easy DIY install. What is so much different that it warrants $3K more? I'm not talking any additional components outside of the Whipple. Could I make just as much, or more power by changing out additional parts for cheaper than just swapping the bolt on Supercharger?

My only point is that it might be more economical right out of the gate to do other things before changing the blower. Obviously, this all depends on horsepower goals.

Thoughts?

This is my plan.
Headers 1400
Intake 500
TM TB 400
Ported SC and pulley 2.2-2.3 1400
Tune 1000
4700 not including labor.

This would be great too but I’d still have to factor in intake TB and headers.
Whipple 2.9 5900
Tuning 1000
6900 not including labor?

I paid $6,000 for the Whipple w/ Tune. PM me if you would like
to know where I purchased it. Over-spinning the 1.7 will kill your engine. It is not reliable power!!

Chevy SS firmware is way different than the 2016 + cars. You will not find a custom tuner in California that will tune for $550. Just the dyno time probably 200 bucks easy. I think everybody here agrees 1K is the going rate. There are sponsored tuners here in the forms.

The headers is what hurt you the most, from my experience. If you're not doing it yourself, labor is not going to be cheap for all that. You're starting to get into the supercharger territory for cost.

(example: I paid 600 for header install on my SRT, and I got a good deal).

I was impressed with the results, I like his mod path and testing. I wish he did pulley and e85 blend next since he already has the sensor installed, just to see what the car could do with a full stock exhaust. Looks like he is doing headers next.
